Ok, here is what happened. A little over a year ago, I got some Universal Audio gear, an Oxbox, and a Apollo Twin. After talking to a guy at UA, he told me that you get a faster, and more efficient computer for a lot less cash using a Razer Blade.
I got the Razer Blade Advanced. This thing was blazing fast and handled anything I threw at it effortlessly. Never had any issues. So about a week after the warranty expires(of course), I noticed it was getting hot above the keyboard. Uh oh. A few days after that, the computer made a crazy revving sound, as if you were revving the gas on a motorcycle! Obviously, this freaked me out. I assumed that my computer was about to die. The sound was absolutely insane. It was very loud, and mechanical sounding, grinding, and whirling simultaneously.
I consulted a couple local techs. One told me that many things were going wrong and it would be minimum of $1200, but could run higher. Great. (Computer was about $2500 new, so I would have to weigh the cost of repair to new machine). The next tech informed me that Razer repair required special factory training that will cost more than normal because of the way they build their machines. He told me I would probably be better off buying a new computer. Even better.
So, I decided to join the Razer forum and ask some questions. A guy contacted me and told me about a great repair tech. I also found this guys name mentioned on the Razer forum, as well as the Reddit Razer zone.
I went to his site, and he had a flat fee of $400. What?? I contacted him, and told him what was going on. He said to send it in, and he sent me a shipping label! He also told me if he could not fix it, it would be free of charge and he would send it back regardless of the time he spent. Off went to the computer.
Here is the best part!! It needed a new fan and a new heat sink. That was it. And because that’s all it was, he told me that it would be quite a bit less than the $400 flat fee!! He could have not said anything and I would have paid the $400 and been happy to, after the first couple techs gave me prophecies of doom.
Here is his name and company: Brenden Henry endurotronics.com
He is an electronic engineer, and knows Razer and Mac very well. On top of that, he is an honest guy. There aren’t that many honest guys in that world it seems. The first two guys were a guy who wanted to gouge me, and a guy who sounded like he didn’t want to deal with it at all.
Just thought you guys would like to know there is a competent and honest computer tech out there that can be trusted. IF I didn’t see a post like this I would be screwed or out a lot of cash!
