Connecting Engl E530 preamp to Torpedo CAB...??

Morning All,

I'm finally in a position to pick up an Engl E530 preamp to use with my Torpedo CAB, as have been using the Eleven Rack for almost a year with good results, but want to add some tube goodness to the tone set-up.

I figure the wiring would go -

Guitar > pedalboard > Engl Pre - out to input on Torpedo CAB - output to either input on Eleven Rack or return on fx-loop (whichever sounds better or does not clip input.)

i'd be using the Bogner Red pedal on the Engl clean for rock sounds, and then tailoring the gain/lead channel for more metal tones.

My main enquiry is what is the correct way to hook the Engl up to the CAB? With only line or guitar to choose from I don't want to have too hot a signal that causes any issues....I know Guillaume has tested the E530 with the CAB, but would like to know most efficient way to hook it up so I can adjust the input level as best possible.

Cheers,

-Riff

Well, there's only a simple thing to try:

ENGL 530 Line output (27 or 28 on the manual's schematic) -> C.A..B in Line input impedance

Then you adjust the Line level so there is no distorsion in the C.A.B. input, don't worry, you won't fry anything if the overload LED is lit. ;)

That's good to know, as when I use my tube amps the overload LED is usually lit up but just for a few seconds until I make adjustments.

No problem, that's a normal behavior. ;)

And even with some overload from time to time, you won't hear that much of distortion on the sound, we calibrate the LED so you keep some headroom before the awful digital distortion. ;)
