You noticed?

Yup....times are a changing. Last summer when I did some project stuff for Lion's Gate films, I brought in my full pedal board with my EVH 5150III 50w & cab to mic up and combined that with some RedWirez IRs. Next summer, I'll just bring my Kemper and be done with it. Can't wait!!

Steve... It's a seductive path, innit?!?! I know this. I sit at this computer with a wall of beautiful amps, cabs, effects, and guitars behind me. The tolex, the size of a nice 4x12, the heads in all their "tube glory". Similar to a garage packed with exotic cars ready for firing up anytime you feel like it.

I also have the Axe-II. I have NO idea why I'm hanging on to these monstrosities - the heads, the cabs, etc. - when this box really and truly takes the cake. It does it all. And it's as easy as pie to get it where you want it to go. I know the hassle of mics and room dynamics and the like. Axe sorts this out fast. I think the main reason I am hanging on to my heads/cabs is the fact I love how they sound when the open up, and when I'm in charge of 'em. The move air, rattle teeth, and sound like rock'n f'n'roll baby.

Let us know when you take the plunge.

Touch sensitivity on the Axe-II is sick as well. As much as I really wanted to dog this device due to its corporate gene pool, I can't.

I would love to have an Axe, or Kemper for that matter, but it would have to be ready to go out of the box. I have no desire to dig through menus and program it.

MAN, I feel for ya. I LOVE my amps and play out with them regularly. The sound's just THERE. But hearing those tracks from the AxeFX and especially the Kemper, it definitely makes me wonder why I'm fighting myself when I record at home. The idea of buying a Kemper so that I can crank my amps at rehearsal to get a profile and then taking it home to record is really calling.

I still contend that if you want to go the digital route use the Two-Notes LIVE. You can load your amp into it and use headphones or line out into a FRFR system. And it does have digital outs.(If you need HI End recording spring for the Torpedo.) You have all the advantages of playing your amp, because you are, and the advantages of bringing it into the digital domain. But yes, it's not as easy as plugging into a speaker cab and twisting a few amp knobs. There are some menus to go through with any digital devices - pick a mic, pick a cab, mic placement, and eq or no, done.

But if you want the whole digital enchilada with models and FX the Axe Fx 2.

The only problem I see with the two-notes is that is a big part of the sound and feel of my amps is the power section and the two notes is using power amp simulation. With the Kemper, my power amp response is added to the mix, from what I understand. Still sounds like an interesting option, for sure.

I believe you can disable the poweramp simulation on the torpedo if needed.

the axefx is just to complicated for me. i have neither the time nor inclination to sit and screw around with one. even though i would love to. how is the kemper compared to the axefx in terms of ease of use?

The Live and I think the VP-1? both are load boxes as well - I use the full amp power section at the sweet spot. it has power amp sims if you want for pre amps and pedals if you prefer that.

It's a different approach, but once the machine is greased, it's easy to do. Get Axe-Edit up and running and it simply becomes another part of your DAW workflow. Took me a week to get into it. Problem is, I need to have the following criteria met when recording with the axe:
- How does it sound through the DAW playback monitors
- How does it sound through the cans
- How does it sound to actually play

These above variables have caused me a fair bit of tweakage time. I play my A2 with cans most of the time, but once I dial in a decent tone with the eargoggles, this is vastly different from the tone I want coming out of my recording. And this sound isn't often as pleasant as the sound I dial in when running it through my 2/90/2 and a variety of different cabs.

Options? It's got you covered hands-f'n-down.

I wrote an absolute book on this topic that circulated pretty widely around the internetz early this year. I am a tube amp lover. I have an Axe FXII and I am recording my album with a tube amp as we speak, but I don't understand the negativity towards this stuff. I think it's a pretty interesting read, enjoy:

Dude, you're a definite welcome addition to this forum. Nicely done

Peace,

I'd love to have an AxFx for recording.

Plug in.......bam, it's there.

Pricey though. :aww:

If that was directed at me, THANKS! I am digging the vibe around this place for sure.
That indeed was directed at you.

Peace,

I love much of Devin's work and have the utmost respect for him as a master musician.
That said I never thought he had a particularly good tone. Sometimes average at best and others, very digital and fake sounding at worst.
So his endorsement of the AxeFx doesn't mean anything to me.
