VoiVod is a perfect example of a sophisticated, as opposed to merely technical, approach to metal. Some 'tech metal' is actually simple stuff played super fast.

Some Ron Jarzombek vibes to it. Quality material. Vocals not much of my preference, but nonetheless, this is good!

That was good. I wore out Nothingface way back around 1990 but for whatever reason didn’t dive much deeper. Looking at their discography, damn they’ve made a lot of records.

Don’t know much about Ron, but Bobby sure is one hell of a drummer!
Saw him with Riot and also in Halford. Monster drummer.

I am only briefly familiar too, only know couple of his songs, but he is a guitar match for Bobby skillwise.

I remember reading about Bobby on Ron’s wiki page, then went to youtube out of curiosity. That man slays the drumkit, true master.

one of my favorite "recent" song.. from the wake

the next is not voivod, but dan mongrain, actual voivod guitarist is the man behind martyr .. so there also a hint of them (martyr) in récent voivod

Thanks for sharing. My first metal show was Voivod in 1985 (time flies). They were still mostly unknown except for the local metal heads. They were playing in high school auditorium (they blew up the ceiling tiles!). Interesting to see their path in this crazy music business and still rockin' after all those years.
RIP Piggy, hope you are shredding up there.

Seen Voivod with Piggy multiple times. Great shows. Love the avant guard vibe.

Any of you guys ever listen to Obliveon from Montreal? Tech deth metal to the max!!!!

One of many great songs!!!

i always thought obliveon is "almost" great, so close..

i'll leave this here while on the subject of weird "prog-death" quebec music.. maybe its the maple syrup who does that

A high school friend was a member of the early days of Gorguts. I feel old!

I respect them and what they bring, but there's something droning and clinical to their music for me. I can only get into certain songs and even then need to really be in that mindset.

For 1993, they where ahead!!!! They had the chord progressions and timings no one ever heard, seen them a bunch of times, they opened for Slayer at the Metropolis and they where awesome.

yeah they never made it big but they had the talent and tried hard. The drummer is related to me from afar!!!! Little,Little,Little cousin..... My little cousin Christian Malette was a help in them starting out. Crazy good guitarist, played with Celine Dion a couple times!!!!
