There is nothing 'pretentious' as stating ones opinion... Nothing at all. You may want to reexamine your use of the term. I think he's good at what he does, it's just that I don't like it.

I love how this forum gets rocking whenever you disagree with another member!

You may one day agree with my comments, once you have grown as a musician.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pretentious

Yup, that's it. And you seem hellbent on stirring shit up, when really no one's upset. Nothing's "rocking". We're just amused at the irony. No ill will.
I don't know if it's a failure of the public school system, or if you just don't understand the definition? 'Pretentious' does not and cannot apply in any way to my comment. It is not a FACT that Dave Grohl is a talented musician, as this is a matter of personal perspective and is therefor subject to opinion. It is not possible for one to be 'pretentious' when stating their opinion in matters of personal perspective. If it is, then the term is contrary in and of itself.

You don't really think its a problem at all with calling people a bunch of kids, or that once people have elevated musicianship we'll agree with your opinion? okay man, have a nice day.

You're insinuating that I made a blanketed statement, when I did nothing of the sort. You sir are the one who is being pretentious, not me.

I'm not a kid, but still like Foo Fighters. However I also like Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, and Dream Theater. Does this mean we can still be friends? :D

I like Grohl.....seems like he gets better in time.
Actually didnt really care for Nirvana though.

I liked Nirvana, until I picked up the guitar. Then I just lost interest in them, and got more into Satriani, Vai, Dream Theater, etc. I kinda snubbed my nose as them being too simplistic, which was naive. Then again I was only a teenager at the time when they hit it big.

Foo Fighters aren't what I'd consider brilliant musicians, but they're enjoyable to listen to in the car. I also really like his Sound City documentary.

For sure....Foo Fighters are what I classify as totally "listener"...No desire to try to play the music but really enjoy rocking it in the car.
Guy seems like he has a great sense of Humor from some of the videos I have seen.

He may come across as a little arrogant at times, but I'd probably be a little arrogant too, if I sold millions of albums. Perhaps not justified, but the guy is human after all. Besides, I get the impression some of the "arrogance" is actually tongue-in-cheek humor. The excitement he shows when playing onstage with McCartney or the Zep guys makes me think he's a bit more genuine than most "rock stars". then again, it could be an act.

I'll tell you what.... I got that Jammit app on my iPad since I haven't learned someone else's music in a long time and sometimes doing that breaks me out some ruts playing wise.. Anyway I downloaded Prentender and especially in the intro of that song, the way he voices chords and picks them, it's not that easy. Honestly it's a little awkward in how he approaches the guitar and IHMO are not so straight forward. Then you you look at what the other guitar player is doing along with him....

Simple?
LOL!
Ok....

When I see people saying the music is "simple" (as if that's always bad) it just hits me as laughable on several levels and sounds to me to be coming from a place of ignorance.

Well, when you get older and get a higher level of musicianship, you'll really understand how simple it really is. And for God's sake, you spelled "speech" wrong. Is the public school system failing you too?  :hys:

Look! It's Dave Grohl, and he's discussing his favorite topic of interest... Himself!

Dave Grohl's compositions are a celebration of musical mediocrity, and sonically define the term 'bubble gum' to the plen-T-pack. I'm sure most of the kids who frequent Rig-Talk will get upset by this, and will respond accordingly. You may one day agree with my comments, once you have grown as a musician. If you decide to go the route of pop music icon like Dave has, then be the best pop musician you can! I only ask that if you happen to run into Dave Grohl, perhaps you can enlighten him to the concept of a key-change. ;)

It just doesn't get any more 'gay' than this... :hys:

It's always immensely entertaining to read posts by run-of-the-mill nobody's on guitar message boards slagging on successful, professional musicians with 20+ years in the business as being "mediocre" and not able to write a song. It's cute and pathetic all at the same time,.......

I really do love it.

We have the same taste in music, though I've not heard of Oceansize. Must check.

My cousin Bobby is always going on about Dave Grohl... Drives me crazy! As a guy who is looks and sounds identical to Layne Staley, and who's favorite bands are Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, KISS, Nirvana, AIC, and Pantera, I don't understand why he would think FF's music so good? He says it's the 'drive'...but I'm not hearing it. Maybe the FF's are the greatest band ever, but I have become too jaded in my older age that I can't hear it?

Na!

Well I was just butting in on your conversation. :D BTW I meant Pretender not All My Life. In my old age my brain doesn't work that good. :D

Kinda makes you wonder if we would even know his name if he hadn't packed up and left an east coast band that he played in early on to play in a dirty, dingy, unknown quasi punk rock three piece in the northwest.

I really like what these guys been putting out thru the years since day one.

Everlong to me is one of my all time favorite songs ever.
So good in all aspects.

The My Hero video is brilliant.

I'm probably just jealous. Regardless of what anyones opinion is, Dave IS living the life! I still think the 'Footos Mints' video thing is super-gay though.
