Cool upgrades for a Floyd Rose Original

Hey guys,

I got this new American Strat that comes with an OFR (well its not new, its from '93). I really like it and to be honest, after a couple of sales i got some cash that id like to spend to upgrade her.

In my list i have:

- tremol-no
- evh d-tuna

What else do you suggest? Im gonna give the stock pickups a try (dimarzio in the bridge) cause i like them so far, but i do have a nice Holdsworth model saved.

Is the tremol-no a good choice?

What's the best compromise in sound gains vs trem working same as stock, some blocks are big and limit the travel, I don't want this. What gains have you noticed? I have lots of Floyd guitars and haven't done this upgrade yet but want to try one. Which do you recommend? Thanks

the one's listed are about it....some ppl might say change your saddles to graphite or whatever the new "tone creating" metal is but the above three are all there is to it.

I understand the "regular" block is 37mm, right?

But not sure what its made of. Is Brass really so much better?

how does the floyd sit, if its on top duna is no problem, if its recessed then you might have some issues.
I have the brass block and it made my floyd guitars sound like crap i had to remove it on all of them.

Stock block should be brass (maybe nickel coated though). Bigger blocks lop off treble, making the guitar sound warmer IME. And contrary to popular internet claims, they do not increase sustain IME.

Tremol-no is kinda neat. It makes set ups and string/tuning changes a breeze. But I otherwise haven't found much use for it, personally.

I always bring my guitar to a tech, cause I'm too stupid to intonate a Floyd myself, but it's just too expensive.

37mm one with the "L" shape any good or just go for the biggest one?

I may be a lil late to the game, but had two of these and loved them. Being that the tremolos can be adjusted tight to the body, there is no need for the tremol-no. I had a 37mm brass block in one of them with no adverse effects. I removed it when I sold the guitars and have it in one of my Charvel San Dimas now. I didn't really like the sound of the stock pickups, so they all came out and were replaced with Duncans. All in all, they're great playing guitars. Congrats and enjoy it!

These seem to be fairly new. I'd be tempted to try them out. Anybody heard of the Hollow Points? Like 'the key' built in to the intonation screw.

I may be in the minority but I had no luck with the tremolo no. I had to tighten the set screws with pliers and eventually the pin that went into the block broke. I would either make stop with a " L" bracket and a screw and a couple nuts.
