simple, but very haunting effective, how a ballad should be, not helicopters or skyscraper roofs...

Kai

Although he's a great player, I really don't listen to Devin Townsend for the guitar, but the solo section in this song is fantastic:

(2:53-5:15)

Angus you shook me all night long
Bryan Adams cuts like........
Eddie money shakin
DL photograph
Yngwie far beyond the sun. Soldier without faith
Blackmore perfect strangers
Vai tobacco road for the love of god
Eric Johnson everything
Dave Murray everything off number of the beast
That golden earring song
That Tubes song
Paul Gilbert that first song off the first Mr big album
Tommy shaw paradise theater

I could go on.....

Tesla - Love Song
Scorpions - Wind of Change

Both of those bands have dozens of other solos that could be mentioned. I just really did those...

The solo and outro solo on this song always struck me as some of the best tone and playing to come out of the 80's

another one I never hear people talk about is this one from Zakk

Keith Scott is one of my favorite guitar players. I love the lead on Cuts. My favorite has to be the main and outro solo from One Night Love Affair. It is everything I love about lead playing.

Too many to name. This was the 'era' of rock out with yer cock out... It was all about the start (2min) middle (30sec) guitar solo (30sec to 1min) song start repeat (2min) end. I loved so much of the playing back then, but honestly never QUITE understood the fashion that went along with it. You know, the sucked in cheeks, the pouty look, the teased hair, spandex, neon scarves, blah blah blah... The shit that got me excited in this era though was:
RR and J.e.L with Ozzy
Dio
Scorpions
Metallica
Whitesnake
Dokken
Vai

All the usual suspects that get mentioned on this forum constantly.

here a bunch that were on the set list when I was in cover band in the back in the day

Holy Diver
Crazy Train
The Trooper
Flight of Icarus
Last in Line
Rainbow in the Dark
Eruption - Your really got me
Paranoid
Alone again
In my dreams
Kree Nakouri
Hiroshima mon amour
Rock you like a Hurricane
Aint talkin bout love
Iron Man
Snowblind
Hell Bent for Leather
Living after Midnight
Mr. Crowley
Grinder
The Ocean
Ridin the Storm out

I can't remember any more but there were a bunch. We started off as a cover band, slipped in a few originals, then went half and half and then all original and stopped playing covers entirely.
