I'm the opposite, like more cut but it is definitely true. EQ'ing that way is not forgiving and with my pick attack, it can sometimes pinch in the upper registrars. As such I like pickups which cut on the low strings and are smoother on the top. What a mess the tone hunt is!

yup the tone hunt lol I landed on my current rig probably 10 years ago. I still change little things. just adjusting level/drive/tone on the SD-1 balancing with the amps gain and eq can achieve so many different tones. i have a maxon od 820 as well, that has an even more refined sound than the sd-1. Never ending, even if you dont change amps lol I recently switched to dunlop tortex .60 mm picks just cause I really like the sound. add picks into the tone chase and its insane lol

I hear ya. I can't decide on which picks I like anymore either. I alternate pick better with some, but like what the thicker ones do to the upper mids. But then I can't hold on to some cause the grip sucks! Man it is never ending. I used to use those purple dunlop fat jazz picks. Might have been my Yngwie phase but those helped with the grating highs for sure but then I tried riffing on the traynor .81mm and I loved em but had to adjust the EQ on the amp once again. Someone please save me from this hell. Sure people are starving in Yemen and there is war all over the middle east..... but I just can't find my tone man!

dont forget strings lol I love the sound of 9’s, love the feel of 10s and 11s, currently using 9s lol
