When I have some downtime I like to look at Craigslist all over the place. In your opinion who was the worst and best?
Best meaning best prices best selection, Worst meaning the same.

Larger cities and more popular areas (Austin, Nashville, NYC, L.A., etc) seem to have the worst deals, unless someone is just trying to off load something. Smaller cities and towns have a lower demand, hence lower prices.

Craigslist is a pretty huge crapshoot up here.

Lots of junk from parents who bought their kid a starter kit and the kid never touched it. Lots of older guys who are trying to sell their custom shop Strats for 98% percent of the new value because "that's what it's worth". Overall, the gear isn't very good and the deals are usually even worse. Not to mention there are a lot of pawn shops and small music stores who will post their stuff on there and those prices are usually WAY off value. One of the pawn shops in the next town over was selling a PRS Standard 24 (the one with the matte camo finish, you know the one) for $849...last time I saw one for sale, it was sitting unsold at $350.

Every once in a while someone will post something cool for a great price because they're hard up for cash or they just don't know what they have. A few months ago there was someone selling a Triple Rec for something like $650 so he could have some cash for a car. Then on the other side of the coin, there is someone trying to sell their PRS Custom 24 for like $3300 and he's posted it every two weeks for almost two years, I think. Never a price change.

I've had a little luck but not much at all. I check it out once a week just in case.

I got two great Craigslist scores.

Found a diezel Herbert in pilot point Texas. Texted the seller and said I had bought a powerball 2 years before from a guy there. He texts back "Marty? Is that you?"
Scored the Herbert for 2500 when they were pretty hard to come by...like over 4 years ago.

I had posted a diamond nitrox on craigslist. Got a text from someone wanting to trade for it. Wound up trading a vht pittbull classic 2x12 combo for it....and meeting someone who wound up becoming a best bro. I now live a mile from dwisted Dave. He is the best thing I ever got from craigslist.

Lately(about 2 years now), i haven't seen JACK SHIT for deals.

like 5 years ago scored a Musicman Luke mint for $600.
Scored a Weber Mass 100 for $40, and the guy threw me a Eurotubes Bias Rite for free!

I no longer see good deals on CL. Most want new prices for shit. Example: for over a year now there has been a GENZ BENZ Gflex 4x12 for $799 beat to shit. Really? Or this Capital Jewelry/Pawn the other day have a nice quilted blue Musicman Axis EVH....for $3350. I actually emailed them and said you need to drop the price to half of that, that is close to fair. I did get a 'thank you' response.

I always refine my search too to "owner" cuz I just can't stand the pawn shops listing stuff.

That's so friggin cute :emofag: :grim:

My guess is L.A, Bay Area, NYC, are likely the best. It's the areas where there is probably the most wealth in a centralized area. Where there is money, there is good gear. Much easier to find good stuff in the major metropolitan areas, compared to small town CL's that lack the traffic and high volume posting. You have to figure, maybe 1% of the adds actually posted in "musical instruments" is high end stuff, the other 99% is garbage.

There was a seller from what I recall in Kansas City that put up two John Sykes distressed LP Custom shops for $1500.00 a piece because his kids showed then lost interest. I contacted him to buy both and he was nice enough to reply that they sold locally within the day. For location? Any ones guess.

Seen really good stuff out from Nashville and Chicago. Atlanta (where I'm at) is fairly dry unless you want a 1960b unloaded...
