Crappy Analog Delay

So I've been needing a 2nd delay in my rig and GC didn't have either the MXR CC or the DD-7 in stock so I went with the Ibanez AD9. I just got done testing it in my rig....and I think I might be the only guy on the planet who prefers digital delay to analog. Or maybe the AD9 is just a sucky pedal? Think I'm gonna take this thing back and wait for the DD-7.

what about a line 6 dl4? awesome awesome delay pedal. about 130 used.

I've seen a ton of them on other people's boards so they must be but the foot print's way too big.

I'll send you a brand new Digitech Digidelay for $40 shipped :D

I prefer it to my old Boss DD-3. But I've went to a rack unit for my delays.

Thanks but I think I'm just going to hold out for the DD-7.

I have a keeley modded AD9 it's a great delay, maybe it's the repeats that sound crappy because they repeat what you play
just f'ing with ya :D

Ibanez DE-7. Killer analog mode and costs around $45

I have the DOD fx90 anolog delay which I like for a beefy bass boost, it just makes the palm mutes really beefy, but I use it on very low settings. I had an AD-9 and didnt like it much either. I just got a Danelectro DanEcho and it isnt bad but has weird settings, a high and low setting for repeats but I like the sound of it. I like the DOD actually the best for enhancing the lead crunch on amps for metal but the pedal is getting old so I dont trust it.

  You might be on to something there!

Does the keeley mod just turn it into true bypass or does he mod the sound of the pedal as well? Mine's just stock so that maybe the difference.

I prefer digital delays as well.

I might be willing to give the MXR CC a shot if GC gets it in before the DD-7 but I've just had really good luck with their CE-5 and DD-6 and will probably end up with the DD-7.

If the AD9 is a good example of analoge delay...y'all can keep it!

I am not sure the new Ibanez AD-9's are the same pedal as the old AD-9's that were made by Maxon.

I have a couple of Maxon AD-80's and I really like them. I use an akai headrush E1 as my lone digital delay, it sounds good though....

The AD9 is one of my favorite analog delays. It sure doesn't sound very clean though; it's more of the "analog warmth" sort of deal and either you want it or you don't.

The only "cleaner" analog delay I know of is the Moogerfooger MF104, and I'd probably recommend a digital delay instead of that. Not that I think the MF104 sounds bad, but if you want clean delay why not go digital; if you get picky later and want something "down the middle" and want to spend the dough, the MF104 won't disappoint.

Thanks for the advice! I read about the Moogerfooger MF104 on another forum and they agree it's one of if not the best delay out there, but apparently it's rather pricey! lol

This was my first analog delay so I guess it's really ignorance on my part. I found out the hard way I do prefer the clean/digital delay so I will be going back to that, but at least I know now! lol

Glad to help!

The MF-104 is misunderstood by some people. The idea of it being "the best" analog delay must come from the fact when it's possibly the cleanest sounding analog delay available. Some get it and totally miss that point, expecting it to be very warm and rich sounding. So when I tried one for the first time I thought "what's the big deal about this anyway?" :) I wasn't thinking analog versus digital, just that it sounded fine and I might prefer a different (digital) delay for the sort of clear sound it got. That's when a friend reminded me it was an analog delay. "Ohhhh" I said. I'd probably still use a digital delay if I had a choice at the same price, but that's one pretty clear sounding analog delay.
