MURDERATOR
I know they are cheap but they do have a reputation for making decent cabs. Local guy is selling a couple cheap. One has a celestion badge in the lower right corner, the other one does not. The one with the badge has g12s-50's. Are they any good? They look like blue voodoo cabs but I know they are not. worth getting or pass?

You have to be careful with Crate cabs. Some were well constructed and other were MDF piles of shit.

The Blue Voodoo cabs and GT cabs (the ones for the Shockwave amp) were either 7 or 9 ply 3/4" plywood. They had solid joints and were braced well. Some of the BV cabs even had Celestion V30's. If you're extremely lucky you may come across one of the 215 BV cabs. If you do grab it immediately. The GT cabs usually came with 70/80's. I don't remember the model number, but the ones sold to pair with the Stealth head were good too and came with V30's or G12t-75's I think.

There was also the GX series cabs. I want to say they were the same as the GT ones but came with Crate branded speakers. But don't quote me on that one.

Avoid the Flexwave (FW) and G cabs, they're undersized and/or made of sawdust and glue. Came with crate branded speakers and were utter piles of shit.

Outside of that it's sort of a crapshoot. In general the speakers were usually trash unless you got one that was V30 equipped. If it was made from 3/4" ply you're probably safe on the construction quality. If it's MDF stay far away... Poor materials & poor construction.

I personally had the GT412 straight and angled cabs. So I can say for certain they were very sturdy and road worthy. If they did get waterlogged with literal shit water from when my house was flooded I would have kept them. I didn't own any BV cabs but have inspected them and they were pretty much the same quality construction as the GT's I had.

I think my BV cab is 13 ply? Whatever it is is as solid as any cab I have

Looks like they are gx model cabs, with one model being equipped with the g12’s, and a plain model with garbage speakers. Completely identical to the celestion model except the badge.

I’d pay maybe $150 tops for the celestion one, I had the ampeg version with the shit speakers and it was not good despite looking cool lol.

I have a JCM 800 cab that someone restored nicely; with old School Cane cloth, metal handles etc...and it was loaded with the S50s. They have a nice midrange, decent lows and overall sound pretty decent with my Marshalls. They could be found in the old carpet covered ADA MP1 vertical 2x12s. I've heard worse speakers over the years. Really good for lead work IMO.

har. just seeing you mention those boxes. They were so gross.

but hey, I love my laney box with 4 g70s.

Phenomenal build quality for the prices you can get them at. Not familiar with those particular Celestions, so I can't help there unfortunately.
I currently have 4 of the BV 412 cabs and they're as solid as any of the higher end cabs I own, if not moreso. Straight and slant of the blue tolex V30 models, one slant of the newer Crate logo with chinese v30s. and one rectangle "st louis" badge with the unlabled eminence speakers. Of course I prefer the V30 loaded cabs but the eminence speakers aren't terrible.

If they're cheap, less than $200, go for em

I had a full ADA rack rig back in the day with 4 of the ADA 2x12 vertical splitstacks. MP-1 + MQ-1 + B200S with an Alesis QuadraVerb. Eventually replaced the MP-1 and MQ-1 with an MP-2. Also had the full ADA Bass (carpet covered) rig.

I still have the MP-2, here's the last pic before the sell off.

I have 4 2* 12 ADA verticals very sturdy sound decent easy to move /stack

I had a Jackson 4x12 was covered in the same type of fabric as the ADA cabs. It was very meh. Laney supposedly made them but I'm not sure about that.

I loved my first run Blue Voodoo cab . Ran Marshall’s through it then I got a new 5150II and it was great with it too

200 for both. I want your Randall cab though. I’m not buying shit right now but if anything changes I’ll make a road-trip your way.
