I am just curious after reading four6and2 thread about his cousins mint 64 strat he got at an estate sale. I have never found something like that. Best I found was a Charvel Custom Shop at a pawn shop for $600 a few years back. Anything else besides guitar gear you ever scored heavily on? I found a cool painting once.

My good fortune in gear finds has mostly been due to GCs used gear selection. They've tightened it up and increased prices over the past year, although I still see some good buys. My best finds:
Mark 2C combo-650
Charvel USA pointy RI-399-they had it marked as a model 1
1974 1960a all original creambacks-349
1982 2204-699

Probably a lot more but these are a few that come to mind.
Honorable mention-Original Mark 2C+ HRG, 1499 at a MusicGoRound.

Mint condition ESP Jake E. Lee for $180 off Craigslist.

I think I got about $1300 for it back then.

Also an old mint condition ESP Mirage Custom Shop with reverse Jackson style headstock neck thru for $300.

I sold it years later for $1800.

1973 Fender Strat for $50 back in 1989. Sold it for $800 a few weeks later. I should have kept it. lol

My luck just isn't that good. One of my friend's found a late '50s LP Jr for something like $50 back in the mid-'90s. My wife found a 120+ year old mine-cut diamond in a bag of costume jewelry for $1 years ago, but that was before her luck changed and she found me... ;)

I have found some great finds on GC Used, though. As Racerxrated mentioned, they seem to have tightened up that ship lately... unfortunately...

I still maintain an irrational amount of hope that my luck will change someday... ;)

Found an ESP Ouija Kh-2 for $600 at a pawn shop. Sold it years ago. Should have kept that one. Also found a pile of pedals for $10 each at a Las Vegas flea market. There was a maestro fz1a fuzz and a ross stereo delay in that pile. I sold those and paid for a chunk of my trip. Good deals are out there still, but not like they used to be before ebay. That Esp Ouija would have never gone that cheap if smartphones were a thing back then.

Dumbleator at a pawn shop for $40? This was like 15 or more years ago. Sold it back then for $2400

Traynor YBA-1 for $30 at a garage sale. Never should have sold it.
1968 Fender Vibrolux for free from a garage clearing a guy was doing..found it in back covered in bird shit and spider webs. Put about $150 into it, new tubes and cleaned it.Sang like a bird. Never should have sold it.
Original script logo Phase 90 for $10. Sold that for a good price, don't miss it.

Never been personally lucky in this regard; however, while working at Sam Ash a customer came in to get a case or tubes or something related to the mint condition Mesa Triaxis and 2:90 he had with him which he just bought at a garage sale for $100. I about fell over.

Personally nothing but in 1998 or 99 a buddy of mine got what I recall was late seventies hamer special for $80. I think it was worth about a grand at the time.

1989 Ibanez jem 77fp for $600 in the mid 90s. The best deal.

1998 fender american deluxe strat for $800 was an ok deal.

Mesa blue angel 1x12 combo for $400.
