was listening to some savatage ,chris was always a favorite of mine, i liked his tone and style alot more than some of the others, dude has a killer legato
iknow not everyone likes john voice ,but i always dug the band

His playing on Sirens, The Dungeons Are Calling, and Power Of The NIght were very influential, for me. R.I.P.

Awesome, awesome player who never got much recognition.

Tragically underrated guitarist.

I LOVE Chris's playing

It is Criss Oliva, not Chris Olivia. Sorry, but I had to correct that since he is my fav. Now I will go rock out to some SIRENS! :D :D

you are correct sir  sirens was what got me into savatage, when it first came out...i actually got to see criss before he died ,amazing

Sirens, Dungeons are Calling, Hall of The Mountain King are all awesome slabs of Metal..

I stopped listening after Gutter Ballet..

I saw them a few times , once was standing right in front of Criss when they opened for Dio on the Hall of the Mountain King Tour... Incredible!

He had a tiger striped Charvel... I was pretty much a novice player at the time so every body was impressive..

But he made an impression...HOTMK was in constant rotation at the time so I was digging the whole band

Hall of the Mountain king is one of the best rock/metal albums ever recorded. If I'm drunk, that's one of those records guaranteed to get me standing on something, air guitar in hand, singing along.

I saw the 'Tage back on the Streets tour in the Cleveland area at a small place called Flash's. It was one of the best shows I have been to, we were about 10-15 feet from the stage the whole show. They had 2 stacks of 412 cabinets in a pyramid shape on both sides of the stage and I remember the drums were in a rack with cool skulls painted all over them. They tore it up. I will never forget it.

One other cool thing I remember is they closed with Sammy and Tex and Jon changed the last line to : Pack the shit we're fucking gone....Threw the mic stand on the ground and that was it.

Hung out with him once when they opened for testament cool guys

I'm a big Savatage and Criss Oliva fan. I think Hall of the Mountain King was their last good album.

Hmm, I dunno about that, Gutter Ballet is pretty good too.

If theres one cd that needs to be remixed/remastered it's Hall of the Mountain King..

Excellent disc but the cd sounds horrible...thin and floating in reverb....I would pay for a deluxe remaster right away!

What did you think about Fight For The Rock? It seemed to take a lot of criticism. I liked it, but I have to take in to account that my ex-wife and I had just started dating (before she became the ex, of course) and it was one of the few 'real metal' albums she would listen to, and actually liked. Boston's Third Stage was another one of 'our albums.' 'Fight...' was definitely their 'most uncharacteristic' release, IMO.
