Hey Fellas,

Posted this double tracking recording test of Ozzy's Flying High Again on Facebook about a week ago. Figured I upload to Youtube and share here for opinions. Don't think my ears are very acute to setting up amps so I figured I ask here how the tone sounds.
I think it sound good but I'd like to know I'm not deaf to tone. Feel free to unleash if you don't like it :D
Playing starts around 1:40 for those with ADD...lol

Btw...recorded in Presonus Studio One on my 1976 FJA modded JMP 2203 through a Greenback loaded 1968 cab miced with an sm 57 and Audix D2

Mostly curious because I'm taking my 1984 JCM 800 2204 to Amp Man Mods here in Chicago this Saturday and he wants me to bring my guitar to find out what I want it sound like...want to know if my idea of good tone isn't that good before I commit...lol.

Thanks guys!

The lead vocal overpowers everything and is the loudest "instrument".

Even during breaks from the vocal, I can't hear the guitar well-enough to make an assessment; it needs to be much louder in the mix IMHO.

Sorry I can't be of more help, Michael.

Thanks Monkey Man! New to recording so that's really good to know. Was apprehensive to mix the guitars too loud but mixed too low as a result. Don't know exactly what I'm doing yet.

Classic case of trying too hard not to overemphasise one's chosen instrument, mate. Been there too!

Have another go and ditch the lead vocal altogether if you like; IMHO it's not really-necessary in this scenario. Failing that you could mute it for a few bars here and there to allow a clearer view of the geetar.

Either way 'though, I reckon the axe could be way-louder. Remember, this is about the guitar tone and not an exercise in balanced mixing, yeah?

I think it sounds great man! Good job. You could benefit from dialing the guitars up a bit but I could hear things just fine on my shitty laptop speakers. I'm guessing if I used my higher end headphones the vocal would be a bit much - more to what Monkey Man was saying.

But tonally I think it was pretty spot on. Would def like to hear more of the guitar though. Also, the flashing back and forth on the video is kind of distracting and unnecessary IMO. I know that is not a tone thing but thought I'd mention it. I'm sure it took a ton of time too to splice and dice that up  If you really need to show a second guitar part, I'd suggest just sticking it in a box like most people do. Just constructive crit to make it better. I can't play anywhere near as well as you and I have very little experience with recording let along posting vids like this on youtube so take my advice with a grain of salt. Personally, I'd skip the banter and get straight to the playing. You can always describe things at the end assuming a person has made it that far. That's not a personal attack on you as most people do the same thing. Just a pet peeve of mine.

Trust me though, I'd never down vote something like this. I don't even use the 'vote' features and if I did I'd never down vote someone.

Otherwise you did a great job :rawk: Love Ozzy

As Dave Grohl said (at least, I think it was him), "Don't bore us, hit us with the chorus."

Forgive my ignorance, Filter500, but who the heck is that in your avatar?

I know the face... dayum... :worship:

The guitar sounds good. Mix is a little off, I agree with the others. I would like to hear it without vocals to get a clearer image.

Great playing, video editing, etc. Just tweak the mix is all I would say.

even without being able to hear it properly in the mix it is safe to say the tone is great

Nice work.

I’ll agree with the others. I wish I can hear more of the guitar but I think I was able to get a decent feel for the tone.

So I like how full you rig sounds with the full chords. It’s got some good bottom. IMO, when you start playing the fills and leads etc. The tone seems to thin out. I think if you can get a little more chunk on your attack it’ll help to keep the lows from overpowering the mids…..but you have to keep it tight.
