well looky looky what i found in my pile of metal...  BTW these setttings are "hear about it Later" VH if that grabs anyone's interest outside of Ronnie Le Take Over..

I tried those settings, sounds great.

Thanks for the comments from those who listened to my clip, it was a blast setting up the signal chain for that tone.

Hey, I cant find the beginning of this. Is "the trick" using a BF-2 with cranked manual to replicated a parametric eq/cracked wah sound?

Clip sounds great by the way, but then all yours do!

Not necessarily and I'll explain lol :D The nasalness Im talking about is how the midrange "Q" narrows. The BF-2 works in a way that the Q narrows as the mid or even the highs get turned up...the effect gets more pronounced.. not just the mids. It's easier for me to explain If you have a parametric EQ.

Hey Ralph I tried it

I made a super short clip, recording is not nearly as good as what's been posted but wanted to see if I got in the ballpark!

Alder bodied Fender Tele with full size bridge JB humbucker into:

Boss BF-2 set the way you described above
Boss SD-1
2203x
H30 speaker in Splawn 4x12 with SM57

Double tracked and panned

Sup Bro!!!

On the BF-2 the first knob is all the way on and the last 3 are all the way off!!

That would be manual all the way up, Depth,Rate,Res all the way down!!

here is a picture of the BF-2

Have to bump this one, no need to start a new thread for a simple question:

Anyone ever hear of the Boss HF-2 Flanger (MIJ)? Wondering if it will yield the same results as the BF-2 (with suggested settings)? Never heard of this pedal before and one showed up at a local shop. I was in a hurry, didn't play it. It looked in ratty shape but still...

thanks

If it was ratty I wonder if some of the lettering wore off the B, making it look like an H.

In short, no, I don't know about a HF-2.

Thanks for the replies. Its definitely an "HF-2", that part was not worn away at all. I suppose I can go back and sample it, can't hurt, might be a surprise.

It's been about 15 years since I played one but the sweeps were higher sounding hence the high band flanger name. I never A/B'd it with the original so not sure if it can sound the same as the original.

Would the new BF-3 flanger to the trick?

here is some info from the boss web page:

"Building on the 20-year legacy of the famous BOSS BF-2, the new BF-3 flanger pedal gives guitarists and bassists an updated version of the classic BOSS flanger with the thickest stereo flanging sounds ever. Two new modes (Ultra and Gate/Pan) create stereo flanging with incredible depth--even Slicer-type effects and sounds that seem to "swirl" around the listener. An instant classic."

It would be cool if it could do the letekro tone, since its easier to get a hold of and it comes in a new better condition than most of the old beat up out bf 2's on ebay

I have no idea if other flangers will do this trick. I have no idea how Ronni figured out how or WHY he could or should use his flanger in this way. It's freaking weird. And it is so midrangey it's crazy. You have to back the mids way down on your amp.

I just tried a Boss BF 3 flanger at a guitar shop, through a Boss distortion pedal and a Soldano amp, and it did sound kind of Tekrø like. The guy who worked there said he had been jamming with Ronni once, and played the riffs of "Caught between the tigers" and "Listen to your heart". He told me that he believed the Tekrø tone came from the old space echo he always carried around.

The thing is, I'm not sure if i'm going for the new digital BF 3 or the old analog BF 2. the only way to tell if the BF 3 does the job is to try them both, so I was wondering if anyone here who have tried the BF 2, could check if the BF 3 did the same thing as the BF 2. that would be great!

Ive tried the Space echo and it will add some gain to the amp and roll off some highs. The real secret to that sound is in the Flanger ;)

And to the question about whether a BF-3 will do it...... I don't know. A new BF-3 is $110 and a used BF-2 is between $30 and $60 on ebay. Why chance it with the BF-3?
