@ glpg80: no, not warmer than rosewood. Wenge will sit right in the middle of rosewood and ebony. Maybe a hair on the brighter side. Its is very open grained wood. Feels fast. Its no more exotic than ebony or purpleheart. Your not gonna find it at the home depot. But searching the net you can find it easily.
I finished the neck with 600 and 1000 grit sand paper. Oiled it with gun stock oil. I got 4 coats deep and let it dry overnight. The next afternoon I hit it with some steel wool to smooth it out to put another 4 coats on and decided not to. Started to lose the natural feel of the wood I wanted to keep. Next time I'll probably only do 1 heavy coat let it dry, steel wool, then a thin coat and steel wool again and be done. Maybe in about six months I'll hit it with a sanding and go lighter on the oil like I mentioned.
The black covered BKP AfterMaths are going to look nuts in there. Gonna do some kind of clear coat finish. Its "Gonnah" be sick. The pau ferro board feels so nice. Ive been playing ebony for so long with 6105 fret wire (ie...wolfgang size fretwire). I went with 6100 jumbos with the pau ferro and this feels so much more comfortable. Ive never played big jumbos like this in my 18 years of playing. Never. I kinda regret not trying them. I'm acclimating to them so quickly and my playing in the last two days has gotten so much faster.
