What do you think of this?

Black body with matching headstock
Gold Charvel and Custom Shop logo
Quartersawn maple neck with birdseye aple fretboard
Chrome OFR
Brass metal dome volume knob
Brass toggle switch tip if there's an option for this

AND a small biohazard symbol well placed somewhere. ;)

No biohazard symbol! No soup for you! :D

Biohazard symbol aside, is there anything you would change to my suggestion?

If I was ordering a custom guitar, I would get whatever I had my in mind and not be too concerned with what the peanut gallery thought.

For me the answer would be no. It just seems like the wrong place for the kids or wife, but different strokes for different folks. If you dig the idea then go for it.

That said, if you have another motive, perhaps using it as leverage to gain approval by the wife then I say scrap the idea and think of a better plan.

It was actually my wife's idea and tbh, I thought it was a pretty cool idea. But once I allowed the idea to sink in for a bit, it dawned on me that once the novelty wears out, it may just look cheesy. The guitar may end up looking like a Mattel toy instead of a workhorse guitar.

Do you guys have any ideas for colors I should get for the guitar? No blues or whites, please.

Ah, just saw this.... Well. If you dig the idea, go for it.

I wouldn't do it, but who am I to say what someone else should do?

I certainly wouldn't do a graphic like that without having the pickup cover and ring painted - it would look bad IMO. For example, my Charvel Custom Shop JD looks much better with the pickup covered and painted - it would look really wonky and incomplete otherwise - and frankly, the guitar sounds just like it would without the cover if it is tone you are worried about. Hell, I wish they could have painted the Floyd!  :

I'm not worried about the tone at all, Steve.

My worry is that if something goes wrong with the pickups in the future, I mean, shit happens all the time, then I can't get an exact replacement.

First off, pickups don't die all that often. In over 30 years of playing and gigging, it's happened to me twice.
Secondly, a solid cover mitigates many of the issues that cause a pickup to die so it's even less likely in this case.
Lastly, the cover should pop off and reattach to a new pickup if the need ever arises.

Now that I did not know.

The last time I owned covered pickups was way back in '96 on my Les Paul and even then, I immediately swapped out the pups for uncovered SD Alnico II Pro's :D

Not the case, bro. The cover is simply double-sided taped to the pickup - it is not part off the pickup itself. I've already replaced the pickup in this guitar twice - any pickup (50mm in my case) works. Once you have the painted pickup cover and ring, you put whatever pickup you want in there. Works great is completely secure and looks cool…

I don't want to state the obvious, but this is way too difficult of a decision to make. There is only one solution.

1.) Charvel Custom Shop with your wife air-brushed on it.

2.) Charvel Custom Shop with child #1 air-brushed on it.

3.) Charvel Custom Shop with child #2 air-brushed on it. (This could go on and on.... I don't know how many kids you have but you can't slight any of them)

4.) Charvel Custom Shop in black with the specs as featured in your post above.

- Now I don't know if you are the kind of uncle who would want to slight any of his nieces or nephews, and by the way, do you have any pets?

Something about pick scratches on my Daughter' face seem sweird. What if I dinged her eye or something. Only if it was wall art would I do it.

If we were friends and you left me out of the picture...well, I would question our friendship.

It's not for me. To be honest there's nothing rock n roll about having tour wife or kids pics on the guitar. Maybe some big titties or something on a Charvel would get a pass but then again it's your guitar and if you got it for you to use at home and keep forever then go for it. In reality not many outside family will like it but its for you so ...

Very true! I was talking to Dan Lawrence the other day and he said the Joe-TX graphic was one of the most popular ones he has been painting lately. Who would want to be left out of that? Add a #5 to my list!

Thanks for the info Steve. One less thing to worry about.

You're killing me, Curt

1 wife, 1 kid and 2 dogs..............4 CS Charvels.................fuck me

On a side note, I don't know what Charvel calls their roasted necks, carbonized or vulcanized, but they won't come out looking all super dark will they?
