Have a guitar hold up in customs in New Jersey for a week now , what’s my wait time looking like ? With covid surges .

It really varies based on where the item comes in...for me, it's Chicago and the Greco/Edwards LPs are through in a day. Don't know why that is, but I've been lucky.
I did have some speakers come in from England and they sat out east for a week, finally moved and got it 2 days after being released from customs. But it's a PIA for sure.

I have an Aviator custom guitar on customs hold. They said they were going to call me between 9am and 4pm today. Spent all day with the phone around and no calls. I ended up calling fedex and they said they needed my ssn and for me to fill out a form. Supposedly they were going to email it today but it's almost midnight here and no form.
Thankfully it's only been in town for 3 days but it makes me nervous to have 3k guitar sitting with FedEx or UPS. Those guys see "fragile" stickers as a dare.

I hear you ! Mines been sitting in New Jersey since the 23 of Dec , I couldn’t get ahold of fed ex and the automated message just said it’s been cleared . So I don’t really know what to do. I emailed the seller and said I’d wait another week. After that I might try and get a refund ?

I had something sent FedEx stuck in Chicago customs only a few days in November or early December. It sat there maybe a day or two and then FedEx said they needed me to fill out a Lacy Act form, and it cleared the next day and was delivered shortly thereafter.
Getting stuck a week sounds like something went wrong, but maybe they're just backed up.

Have had things take multiple weeks to get through customs. Only in cases of documentation problems do you or the seller have any influence on helping that along

The seller said everything was documented and good , so I’m guessing they are super backed up . Hopefully it’s not lost … I’ll never buy international again that isn’t shipped dhl. I talked to my Shipping guy about it , I guess dhl has their own port of contact so it flys through .

In my case, the Japanese seller had correctly filled out the form as best I could tell. Customs just didn't seem to want to use it and wanted me to fill one out, which to be fair the Japanese form had (gasp) a lot of Japanese writing on it, but there was enough English to figure it out.

I called customs Clearance today and they finally sent me the lacey form and some other form. I completed the form then sent in the info from the dealer that is the equivalent of the Lacey Act form. Hopefully they cab get it sorted tomorrow so I can get it Friday.
This has been such a headache that I probably won't buy another one outside of the U.S. for awhile.

Mine is waiting for clearance from the U.S. customs. They said it should clear over night on Thursday. No update since. Im hoping to see something tomorrow if not I will be calling too.

Call the customs clearing man. I had no movement until I called them. 1.800.249.2953 if you are in the U.S. They should be able to tell you who is working your case.
I had to call them 3 times each time someone entered something wrong on the main fedex number. Each time I called the clearing some movement happened

My Edwards flew right through. It went from Japan to Memphis, about 5 working days I had it.

No actually all my stuff from Japan has been super fast as well, this is coming from Spain , been at New Jersey customs for almost a month now

I had to wait about 2 weeks and it screwed with my nerves. The longer they tend to have stuff the more chances for them to screw it up or lose it.

So I ordered an Edwards from Japan late Saturday night (I'm in the US, Ohio specifically), and Sunday morning they promptly sent me a note saying they were getting it ready for shipping. I look out on my porch a few minutes ago and there's this giant box sitting there. Yep, Fedex just dropped it off. Definitely feel lucky based on some of the stuff I'm reading here.
