D-Moll or Paul?

OK, so I'm going back to Diezel and it's going to be a Paul or D-Moll. I love both amps. I'm kind of leaning towards the Paul because it's slightly better at lower volume and cheaper to replace power tubes. However, the D-Moll has the mid controls which work amazingly well. Both amps are punchy as hell. The D-Moll has a slight advantage in the drive section, but the Paul has a slight advantage in the clean section. Can't decide. I know if I buy one, I'll still wish I had the other, but can't afford both, so what do you dudes think?

Have never played Paul. Can definitely say that the D-Moll is pretty darn good sounding at low volumes.

Just played a Paul. KILLER. JTM tones with higher gain and higher gain.

Between the two, I like the Paul a bit better. Both sound good at lower volumes. You can dial in some gain on the Paul... just not as modern sounding as the DMoll.

Just pulled the trigger on a Paul. Got a killer deal on clearance from MF. Stupidest thing I've done selling the first one. This one stays!

If you could get the Paul clean and dirty, VH4 channel 3, and Hagen channel 4 in a stereo head...

Man the VH4 would be my first choice... if they had a smaller 45w version. Have you tried the Lil Fokker? It's a seriously overlooked amp. The clean channel is outstanding all on its own, but the 2nd channel rivals the VH4 channel 3. Yeah I know that's kind of a bold claim, but it's really that good. Too bad they discontinued it. Now I'm looking forward to the VH2.

Yeah agree for sure! Littleguitars has one; maybe he'll chime in.

What I like most about the Hagen is the layout and loop/etc. controls. A very flexible, well-thought-out amp. But the tone on the Paul yesterday was just killer. I was playing one of those Joe B Epiphone Firebirds through it (don't knock it until you try one, just killer) and it was unreal. Alien Love Child/Last House on the Block tones for days.

Having owned both and still owning the Paul I prefer the Paul. Not by much but the Paul has been a great amp. It does a lot of tones really well. I'm a metal player as most of you know and I think it has surprised a few people in that aspect.

Honestly though, I wouldn't kick any Diezel out of my bed. I love all the ones I have owned.

I have a couple clips of the Paul if it matters.

I agree. It does perform metal riffing exceptionally well for being a "vintage voiced" amp. I wish it had the mid control of the D-Moll instead of the reverb, but the Paul has a fantastic EQ, so there's still a lot of flexibility. Also, I think the Paul sounds a bit less in the mids than the D-Moll, so it seems to be able to obtain metal tones quite easily without even scooping much mids. It cuts through a mix like a Marshall.

I love the mids on the Paul. Agreed that the mids cut better to me. Don't get me wrong, the D-moll has the ability to cut great as well when dialed correctly. I used a D-Moll live for years and had no issues cutting in the mix in a two guitar band. I think I just prefer the tone of the Paul.

Oh, and congrats on the new amp!!! I love being in the Diezel family. :)
