D Tuna: Yeah or Nay

I thought it was cool for the month I had one on the Peavey HP Special I had. Took a while to dial-in right where it was close to being in-tune when swapping back and forth between tunings. But once I got it set right, it was sure a lot handier than the alternative. Ulitmately, I just decided that my refusal to use floating/locking trems for the past decade plus was well-founded and ditched the whole rig. But if you're into locking trems and want to flip back and forth between drop-D and regular quickly, without switching guitars... what other choice do you have? (So in that case, yes... it's worth the $40. ;) )

I have one on an iceman with a floyd that i blocked. Havent played that guitar in 2 years, but was my number one and played lots of shows, jams and practices.
D tuna worked great for me.aswith anything, theres alil tweaking involved.but nothing annoying.
I give it a thumbs up!

A good friend of mine had one on his Suhr and didn't think well of it. I guess it still needed tunes after switching it to D

It all has to do with proper calibration. There is a learning curve for sure. Spring tension has alot to do with ALL the strings being in tune when youre using it. I use one and they works perfectly, I highly recommend it

FWIW, I only use 009-046 strings

I dig 'em! I've never had a problem with drifting tuning when using it...

I just set the tuner so I can do standard tuning or drop d and that works better for me (turn it down for standard or bring it up for drop D). It works fine for my needs. I never gelled with the D Tuna that I had.

If I had a non-recessed Floyd I'd consider it a must have, along with a Tremolno.

I really like it and think its worth every penny. Took me a few months to get it set up perfect where the other strings wouldn't drift out of tune. It's on my EBMM Axis. I figured out that the trem had to be perfectly flat with the body and the springs should be set on the tight side to avoid the tuning drift. Also, as the directions say, tune the strings unlocked in drop D then lock them and fine tune the low E with the allen wrench.

I use it as my main practice guitar (so I only have to take one guitar) or if we are doing a show with multiple bands and I don't have room on stage to bring multiple guitars. Also, sometimes our singer makes the set list and doesn't group the drop D songs together. I'll just grab the Axis and not have to worry about taking too much time in between songs.

i really like the d tuna. after setting it up and getting the set screw adjusted, it works flawlessly just as advertised

My sentiments exactly. I found my D Tuna to be a pain in the ass (anybody want to buy a mint one in the package?) I tune the string to E with only a turn or two left to tighten and then if need D, I back off on it almost up to the top. Works like a champ for free.

I might be interested. Been meaning to pick one up. I have 2 others and they work perfect.

I have 2. One is an earlier version which works great, the other I just bought it last year and no matter how much tinkering I do I cannot get the intonation right on it so I never use it.

Ive never had a problem with them. Easy to set up and they work...

For those who cant get them to work.

A lot of the D-Tuna's that didn't come on the Wolfgangs had a bur on the inside of teh part that you pull out. Check it & if its not smooth, file it or dremmel it smooth.

This. If every thing is set to dive only etc.
I had a few I had to file. Look where spring and locking bolt slide back and forth in silver piece. The inner surface of the silver barrel may have casting marks or excessive/sloppy plating. Take a needle file and touch up until smooth and bolt spring can slide back and forth without hanging up. Remember with string tension any drag or catching will be greatly amplified.
Other than that small set screw backed out and tuning screw backed out and then screwed in till just touching bolt. Maybe 1 turn.
Easy one you get the hang of it. Trem must have no upward pull at all.
Hope this solves it.
Aloha, Rob."

I use it and love it, but it always needs slight adjustments on the other strings to be on pitch, after dropping or briging it back, but it's normal.

I have 3 and damn do they work good. once you get the little set screw right , it`s a god send. i have 2 older ones and an EVH branded newer model.
