Dan Gower/Fortin José Marshall mod

I have a Dan Gower Jose modded marshall coming tomorrow. I actually had it modded myself back in 2014 but sold it maybe in 2015. Can’t really remember it.

Have any of you tried a Fortin or Dan Gower Josè mod? Thinking it’s the same??

And what did you think of it? It doesn’t have a loop.

I had one of each, a Fortin Cali mod and a Gower Cali mod...both are Jose variants from what I remember. I liked the Gower more but it was a 76 SuperBass vs. a Ceriatone 2204 Fortin to be fair. Both had the signature volume drop when the Master was pulled. Nice amps for sure.

This Jose thing is weird to me cause back in the day early 80`s most original jose I heard/played did not sound that great. Sort of like Lee Jackson mods some good some bad.

Then Cameron came along and made the Jose mod sound killer. Then everyone copied him. Nowadays, everyone thinks ALL real Jose amps sound good. Like you said, some sounded good, most sounded like shit. Funny thing is Cameron finished quite a few Jose amps that were left over from when the store he worked at bought everything.

Yep it’s a copy. He’s bought up a few original Joses, MetalHead modded Marshalls(Elan) and of course Larry amps for his circuits.

Yep it’s a copy. He’s bought up a few original Joses, MetalHead modded Marshalls(Elan) and of course Larry amps for his circuits.

I understand that one of those Jose amps was one Mark finished. That must sting Fortin.

That said, I like Dan. He’s always been cool.

I have a fully loaded Gower Killer Kali++ 1979 JMP 100w.

I've had countless amps over the years and the Gower is the best hands down. There is so much versatility in that mod. It can sound like a stock JMP/ 800, plexi, monster high gain, and everything in between with zero compromises. It's my #1.

The build quality of the Gower is also phenomenal. Internally, it's the cleanest, most sanitary looking work I've ever seen. Amazing attention to detail and high-quality components.
