Most of the time when I'm in my car, XM/Sirius is my soul-salve white-noise....i hear it, but i don't really pay attention. On some occasions however i'll pay particular attention to a lick someone is laying down, or a melody, whatever...then a couple weeks ago, I heard this opening riff (hadn't heard it in a good while)....man the tone and texture of this lick stuck to me on this particular day. Rest of the song is just meh (I guess).

Was he indeed using the 5150's in this lick?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyYc-iPTaEc

Dan huff is a killer player.. Love that first giant cd. I don't know what he played through back them.

There's an old instructional video on youtube where he talks about his gear.

Here's the first part.

The opening solo is wasted on that song, but it rocks none-the-less...

My .02, IMHO, YMMV, etc, etc, etc

Cool.

Whenever I hear that band, which has only been a handful of times, I'm blown away by how terrible the songwriting is. :aww:

Dann Huff is among my favorite players of all times. That album is full of great tones and playing. i got to see them on that tour openning for Heart. Couldn't believe how great the sound was live, they sounded just like the record. Considering how much layering and overdub they did on this album, duplicating it live was not easy, but Dann had it. He had help from a rhythm guitarist, who was great too. Dann broke a string during "Innocent Days" and the rhythm guy jumped right in there and did the solo note-for-note, that's knowing the material!
i wasn't close enough to see the amps and the rig, but he indeed used Tyler superstrats in the whole show, including that yellow one in the video, which he played most of the show with.

Their music style was what it was....Journey inspired arena rock. Giant came out when Grunge and alternative were getting big.

Yea.... I pulled up an article about Dann, and he had said once Pearl Jam came along they were out of work, and moved back to Nashville.

Ironically, he's now the session guy he really wanted to be, and one of the more sought after producer/musicians in Nashville (on the Country scene).

HUGE in Nashville, really talented player. Can cover it all.

he and landau were the main reasons i wanted and got a tyler and really fell in love with rack effects.

Saw him first when he and his brother David ( the drummer here and with White heart) were playing with the christian band White Heart. GREAT guitar player and just a super nice guy!!!
One of the scariest pure musicians I have ever been around and it's just not FAIR that the guy is also a not good but GREAT singer on top of it all!! As a lead player I will put him solidly in Shawn Lane territory and one of the best on the planet dude is just a freak of nature! Technique of Paul Gilbert taste of Gary Moore and voice close to Paul Rodgers it just ain't frrekin FAIR   !!

Lots of info over on Huge Racks inc about Dann, but if you watch thru those videos the only "amp" that is on and plugged in is the Mesa Studio Pre-amp in the rack. The Peavey classic he uses for a basic rhythm track later on in the series. Lots of talk about an original Kasha Preamp in that rack as well ....

Dan said in interviews back then that he had a Marshall modded by Soldano that he used all the time. He told Mike Soldano that the only reason he didn't have an SLO was because it couldn't get any better than the Marshall he modded for him.

Amazing musician. Big fan back in the day..just re-ordered Last of the Runaways off Amazon, couldn't download in on my Zune. Really great player/singer!
