No other record captures the decline of the false hope of the '60s and the transition to the creeping malaise, grey, hopeless strife of Britain in the 1970s. Not to mention the quintessentially English way of dealing with the psychological effects of that. In many ways, a perfect record that has not aged a day or become any less relevant.

"Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way."

Happy 40th birthday, Dark Side of the Moon: thanks for all the inspiration.

Certainly better than most of the stuff that is popular today.

I dont know Stephen, I dont recall topless chicks with helmets in a group format back in those days
Great album though

Sometimes the easiest way to tell a story through song is to just speak the truth...

Great album - songs from it pop up occasionally on the iPod, but the local FM station pummeled it endlessy in rotation back in the day which left a scar...

I am almost ashamed to say that I am not really a fan of the record. Not that it matters to anyone, but that's just my opinion.

And I don't get why I don't. Good songs, with deep and honest meanings... Timeless subjects. Great instrumentation, genius production (especially for the time)... It's all there.
I suppose it can't speak to everyone... Although I am one of the only people I know who doesn't like it.

Much respect for them though.

man i love this album. i went through several copies as i would fall asleep with it every night with headphones on ... did the same thing with The Wall

I would often doze off, unintentionally, in a hypnotic daze listening to it, but the song with the female singer(s) would always snap me out of it

awesome album. love floyd. we need music like that again...

A few years ago when Roger Waters was touring & doing all of DSOTM she was with him & improvised that part. At one point I felt tingles go up my back & never have I ever been more moved by music.... it was magick...

An iconic record/band. And the follow up album wasn't bad either ;)
