dave murrays strat

ok, im a huge maiden fan, but i dont know how dave murray got his fender guitar from the earlier days. did he get a regular strat and modify it it with a floyd rose and humbucker? when did he retire it? does he still have it? any details on this guitar would be very appreciated.
 
You mean his black '57 Strat? I think it has DiMarzio pickups, not sure which ones though. And I'm sure he still has it, but I haven't seen him use it in years.
 
His black '57 had 2 humbuckers.
I have read Dimarzio, Duncan....who knows!
All i know is he had pickup rings + the pickguard :)

If you watch the Early Days DVD, he uses it for a whole concert ;)
 
I had a dvd of all the music videos maiden made and you can pretty much watch how that guitar ages throughout the dvd

His black 1957 Strat (used from circa 1976-1990) now resides in a glass case at his home. Although he has been seen with the occasional Dean, Gibson, ESP, or acoustic, Murray's primary instrument has been a Stratocaster. He used the DiMarzio Super Distortion and [PAF] in his strats before switching to Seymour Duncan JB's and Hot Rails in the 1990's."

its a bit suprising that he never got a signature model. he's one of the greatest people to play the stratocaster.

Well....they kinda got the Fender "Iron Maiden Strat", but they never really used it or any strat that looked exactly like it.

Murray and Smith = :thumbsup:
Gers = :gethim: .......he dances around too much!
 
Murray needs a signature Strat IMO, I can't believe he never had one either.

I for one, am a big Janick Gers fan.
 
adrian and dave are probably my fav guitar players of all time (next to zakk and alexi). i like janick, but just not so keen on his style sometimes. plus he's taken some of adrians parts :gethim: i'd love the iron maiden strat, but dave still needs his own model.

I'd prefer an Adrian model first :)
Sunburst/Maple board/Floyd/Full size hum in the bridge!

janick is awesome definitely. great riff in ghost of the navigator. just not as keen on him as adrian and dave.
