I have heard some great clips over at David Bray's site and was wondering if anyone owned or had any exerience with his amps? Don't really hear much about him here? Which mod/rework would be the best for that 80's LA strip tone ?

Played a buddy's 50 watt Plaex that was modded by Bray. It was pretty ass kicking.

I had a 100watt rework II 1959 reissue I picked up on ebay a year or so ago..it sounded good and cleaned up with my guitars volume knob. It was not a uber metal high gain amp...more classic and hard rock oriented. I sold it to Reeves amps when they were developing their super 78 model head. If you need just one type tone you might like it...good luck

this is my 1996 Marshall 1987 Bray mod/rework II, not a metal amp, but great rock tones, here is a clip of mine, just recorded with a cheap digital camera

Sounds great, can the amp do slightly higher gain from there? By no means do I want a super metal amp, just a little higher gain in the vein of a aldrich cameron for example

I've got 2 David Bray Moded Plexis for sale if anyone's interested.

One is a 50W Marshall 1987x with Bray's Mod I, channel 2 dual sound, resonance pot, and dual footswitchable master volumes.

The other is a 100W Metro Amp Plexi Head all the same features and hand wired point to point.

Both are sweet amps in pretty much mint cond.

whoa that video is already quite high gain
maybe what you're missing is the more aggressive voicing
I like that tone better than any cameron video I've seen :scared:

"I like that tone better than any cameron video I've seen"

Very cool

I had one in purple the same as marshall law's, it was pretty cool....here's an old clip I found of it...don't mind the drunkeness and the silly hat.

Sounds great War, was that a plexi reissue with Mod/rework I ?

1987X mod\rework II, dual master volumes in a purple Mojo box. Its a very cool amp. I miss it sometimes... :(

All I can say is that I have had David modify two Marshall 1987's for me and currently waiting for him to complete a BRAY 2022 I ordered. As far as I am concerned David makes the best amps on this planet and I personally like his mods over any other amp guru's out there. You want that LA Strip 80's sound??? Check this out. Vic Johnson playing through a BRAY 4550. My next amp on my want list. http://davidbrayamps.com/vicjohnson.html

Oh, and another really cool thing about David, He's very personable and he wants to make the amp perfect for you and what you like.

I'd love a Bray 4550 50W for VH covers. Nails that tone and then some with 25 watt GB's
