We had a mini Mapfest at my place this past Saturday with representatives from both HCAF and Rig-Talk present. First off is was an absolute pleasure to finally meet, and put face with moniker/name of just a few of the guys I've gone back and forth with on both forums for years. Everyone was super cool. This was the initial "test run" in the band/loud room of my home, and I think everyone that was there would agree it was a success and a hell of a lot of fun. We're gonna do another one in the spring that I will organize a bit better from a video clip making standpoint. I used an older digital camera to make the clips and so they're not exactly high quality stuff. The fucking mic on the camera took some serious abuse and I tried my best to not make it clip, but in a room full of loud maps it was tough. From the HCAF we had abecon5, johnpace2 (also a Rig-Talk guy) Oblivion DC and newholland. Also had Nick "TheMagicEight" from Rig-Talk. Ok, the amp, cab and guitar run down:

Amps in the room:

Bad Cat Lynx 50
Bogner 20th Anniversary Ecstacy
Bogner Shiva (original version)
Cameron CCV-100
Crate 2x12 combo, Titan modded w/WGS CL80's
Dr Z Carmen Ghia
Framus Cobra (FJA modded)
JMJ30 (the best Vox AC30 clone out there)
'78 Marshall JMP 50 watter (PPIMV "LeMar mod" by Pete Cage)
'71 Marshall Super Bass 100 watter (PPIMV "LeMar mod" by Pete Cage)
Mesa Boogie Tremoverb
Orange Dual Terror
Roccaforte Custom 30

Cabs in the room:

Bad Cat 2x12 w/Bad Cat branded V30s
Bogner 2x12 OS w/V30s
Bogner 4x12 w/Scumback 75s
'78 Marshall 4x12 w/G12M blackbacks
VHT 4x12 w/P50E's
Mesa Boogie 1x12
Mesa Boogie Recto 2x12 w/WGS Veteran 30's

Guitars:

Several Les Pauls, Fender Telesonic, Suhr Classic T w/P90s, Collings I-35 Deluxe, McInturff Royal w/P90s and an ESP Custom Shop V.

Alrighty -- so I will post some vids soon. Here are some pics:

Rankings. I think we would all agree that the winner in the metal category is the FJA modded Framus Cobra. I had never heard one in person and frankly most of the clips are heard were just OK-to-good. Well holy shit balls! This amp just sounded massive in the room, clear, definied, fat, huge/tight lowed and great projection. Matched up well with Mike's VHT 4x12.

For the vintage crunch and gain a toss up between my JMP and John's Super Bass. Both have they're own thing going on but we all agree they sounded fantastic unboosted or boosted with the OCD.

We did play clean a lot (obviously) but the cleans out of my JMJ30 are sweet.

The biggest surprise in my book was Abe's Titan modded Crate 2x12 combo. That amp sounds great for everything from clean to crunch and even metal. Pretty amazing, filled the room.

OK, terrible vid clips complete with mic clipping - :o

Mike rocking his Cobra:

Abe says "Hi", John riffage into the Cobra

Nick's killer riff through the Cobra:

John screaming:

Loved the crushing tone of that Cobra. We ran out of time to do clips of the CCV. Next time!

Definitely gotta do clips of the Cameron next time but remember to bring your noise gate!

We're gonna do it up right next time, after party and all.

framus sounded awsome, i think i sold him that amp a few years ago but i didnt know he had it modded by jerry till right now.

BTW, the 20th Anni Ecstasy is an amazing sounding amp. Every channel sounds great -- didn't get to play through it enough though. Next time Nick, next time.

Hey Bill. Seems like a fun time was had by all. I liked the Framus and the 20th Anni XTC alot!

Jim, what's up brutha? Yeah, it was a lot of fun. All the amps sounded great,...the Cobra is ridiculous, for metal I've not heard much better. The 20th Anni is amazing, didn't get enough time with it. I personally loved the boosted vintage Marshall's clip, the JMP and the Super Bass.

There is nothing more brutal than the Cobra honestly.
It's downright vicious in every way.
Probably the clearest distortion I've ever heard as well. VHT's are very close

I can't believe I missed this thread! I don't think I got any video of Mike's Cobra when I modded it. Very cool! Glad you guys liked it. Thanks for putting up the video.
Jerry

Awesome! Let us know next time , I have some cool stuff I could bring too

all those nice amps, and i'm wanting to know if those are bass traps on you wall?

didn't listen to all the clips, but think the 20th has the Cobra beat for my ears on the clips. room is allways deferent.

Wow I didnt even realize there was an amp fest that close. Damn
