DC polarity from interface question

Hey Dave,

I want to send DC power down a guitar cable like I've seen you on some rigs but how do you determine the polarity coming off the supply? I was going to clip the end off a wall wart and use that but just want to know how to figure out which side is which, +/-. I'm either going to use a boss wall wart or a one spot that I have laying around unused.
