Grew up listening to Sammy - Standing Hampton, 3 lock Box etc

Love me some old Hagar

Same with DLR era VH - got every album

Yet, I dont own / listen to / nor care about Van Hagar

Van Hagar isn't about rock - its about radio play (ie Show Me The $$ Money)

Couldnt disgree more...If you dont think this Dave reunion is about money (a last ditch attempt, mind you) then you are fooling yourself. I have been around for both eras and love them both..And i got news for you....radio play????? People said the same same thing when Jump and I'll Wait were singles way back when. However, that is beside the point. The fact is that they are flat out embarrassing themselves as a band now. The last album was all reworked demos, the tours are greatest hits package walk throughs....where is any new material??? where is the supposed magic of this lineup? And, for God's sake, where the hell is Mike Anthony? What do we get? A double live album? (again, another cash grab). Again, this is the deal....He cant sing, and it was never more obvious than this little publicity run they are currently on. In my opinion, I dont think the brothers really want to do this..but this is the play they made..Do you really think Eddie (Mr. Tone Chaser, I'm a musician and not a movie star) likes how these vocals sound? Really? Again, call Sam and Mike...its the only play they have left.

Oh I don't doubt "this Dave reunion" as you put is about money

and for the record I think both Dave & Ed are getting too old ( they should have
a reunion a decade ago - then maybe)

last, its not an attack on Van Hagar - Ed's playing left me seriously "uninspired"
but Sammy sounded like old times

Just think of all those great licks from 5150 & Balanced
that nobody plays

In one post you said with Hagar was all about the money...now, like me, you say the reunion is all about the money...Where we going here, son?

Ed and his brother will get it like last time when you see some of the tour cancelled, as they realize no one is showing up for this dreck. Most people know what youtube is and have 2 fucking eyes and ears like us. If you want the 100 dollars EVH guitar lesson by all means go, but what do you expect? That EVH can't play it anymore after playing the same fucking songs over and over for 40-45 years? Until the cash flow dries out they will resist Sammy because he is expensive to them and a lead singer they can't marginalize like Roth.

Balance is my favourite Van Halen album and I've always preferred the Sammy era. I even liked Eds tone best on Balance

IMO Roth is a showman & that is about all he is...Hagar is a singer.

I'd rather see the current DLR/VH and that setlist of "Hear About It Later", "Romeo Delight", "Beautiful Girls", "Mean Street"...than have a Sammy led VH and have to suffer through "EAGLES FLY" AGAIN!!!

Anyone that prefers Hagar isn't a VH fan

I am a fan of both sides of the house. But my all time favorite Van Halen song is the title track 5150. Such a good rocker.
Love the stuff off the early records dont get me wrong. But 5150 is just such a great song to me.

I agree 5150 is a great tune, especially like the live version on Live without a Net, the solo section just kicks all kinds of ass! I like the DLR era stuff better but I like the Hagar stuff as well. Any VH is better than no VH. They wrote some kickin songs and Eddie wanted to expand the bands sound so Hagar was a good fit at the time and its not like Sammy kicked Dave out of the band, they had no singer so what, you want no Van Halen? Anyone in that spot would have been suspect and I think Sammy did a great job and brought the band a lot of new fans too as the music was more accessible and not quite as hard rockin. One of my Favs is Best of Both Worlds, another tune I think is excellent from that Era.

Plus 316? One of the best little guitar diddys out there!
FUCK was a great album as well.

I always look at Van Halen and Van Hagar as two completely different bands. Eddie's tone changed so much that it was easy to accept it as something completely different in my opinion.
