Might want to take a screenshot of it just in case the ad gets pulled.
Hey everybody, thanks for the heads up!!

Page and info saved. I talked to the detective today. I'll see what comes of it.

Sweet! I'm glad I was able to help. Thanks guys for keeping this thread on the first page. We all have to stick together when it comes to theft, and I definitely remembered his guitar right off the bat. It probably helped that I have one like it without the routing job.

I hope everything works out!

I would imagine even if the guy that is hocking it isn't the perpetrator he will be able to point you in the right direction. If you find one you won't be far off the others. Hope you get everything back. My buddy had his JCM2000 stolen years ago and I still look for it.

Everybody talking about justice should remember that even if this is the guitar, it doesn't necessarily mean "justice has been served" because any innocent bystander could buy a stolen guitar without knowing it. I've bought loads of used gear and quite frankly, I've never done serial number checks and even if I wanted to I would have no idea how because there's no centralized "stolen music gear" database that I'm aware of.

I truly hope DBU gets his stolen gear back, but people need to be careful to not crucify the innocent.

Definitely, Bob! I hope no one thinks that I'm accusing the poster of the ad or anything like that. I just noticed the guitar for sale in the area, and I remembered DBU had one that was stolen with the same routing job just like the one in the ad.

"IF" this happens to be his guitar and the guy selling it wasn't the one that stole it, someone mentioned this may help the authorities head toward the right direction of the real thief or thieves. That was my immediate thought last night.

Like I said, I hope this all works out for DBU. He is a friend of one of my friends from back home. I didn't get the chance to meet him because he was in the process of moving away from the Baton Rouge area right when I got here. With that said, a friend of one of my friends is a friend of mine. Also, anyone on RT or at the old HCAF are considered friends of mine as well.

I know all of the genuine people here and at the OLD HCAF would do the same for me if I were in DBU's situation. In fact, Bob definitely helped me out back in the day when I dealt with a shady character on eBay. If I can help any of you in any way, all you have to do is send a PM, and I will get a notification in my email.

I will check back in a few days. I've been busy with school (back in college AGAIN), work, finding a new place to live and some nasty cold/flu thing my oldest brother decided to bring back with him from Great Britain when he was over there last week.

If any of you ever want to contact me or catch up with me, shoot me a PM or look for me on Facebook. My last name is Breithaupt. My first name is obvious.

Take Care Everyone!

There is a nationwide database that law enforcement uses called N.C.I.C.

In short, it is based on "hits". Which will include many things, including stolen merchandise, cars, missing persons, wanted persons, etc. So if you have some gear stolen, and can provide a serial number and good description when reporting it, there is a better chance of getting it back, if law enforcement ever comes across it and runs the serial number. For example, a person gets pulled over for speeding, with 10 nice bicycles in the back of his pickup truck. A check can be made "on the spot" via the cops computer, to see if there are any "hits" on those serial numbers, due to it being suspicious. If one of the bikes serial number is reported as stolen in Hawaii, it will come back as such, no matter where the traffic stop is taking place. The bad thing about guitars and amps is that the serial numbers are easily defaced or removed, which causes different problems for the person in possession of them, but does not get the gear returned to the rightful owner very often.

Although, alot of thieves are too greedy to remove serial numbers on musical merchandise, because it certainly "limits" their options for re-selling it. And most thieves can go a short distance and re-sell to an unknowing shop, because most of the victims do not keep good records of what they own, as far as serial numbers. A vintage 1969 Les Paul is great to have if the thief is a musician, but worthless to sell in the mainstream market....but there are also shady buyers out there that do not care about where something came from.

And here is a good example, about a year ago I saw a 100 watt JMP for sale on another forums "classified" section, that had the serial number VERY OBVIOUSLY removed and defaced. Most people "stood up" and said that they would not be caught dead buying it, but there were others that had the mentality that the person trying to sell it had not stolen it himself, and it was a good deal..........

WRITE DOWN YOUR SERIAL NUMBERS JUST IN CASE, BECAUSE IT CERTAINLY CANNOT HURT ANYTHING.

This is true Bob. Very true
Hopefully, if he's not the actual thief he will talk before we are forced to waterboard him

Hello gents... IM THE GUY! haha. I wish someone would have emailed me! would have made this process a whole lot easier for him ;) Thanks for not crucifying me first haha.

Anyway, much to my surprise I get a text message yesterday for an Ad I posted on the 10th... Very odd I thought. He seemed REALLY eager about it, and didnt even offer to haggle me (red flag!). I was actually quite nervous to meet him because I was worried HE was the "bad guy" lmao.

So I meet up with him a little while ago, and out of NO WHERE a guy pulls up. I see only a gun at first and my heart jumped into my throat. I looked around and saw a badge... I was re.lieved. I figured he had a cop buddy come out to make sure he didnt get robbed, which was comforting at the moment. He then started going over the guitar, and I heard him mutter "this is it. You can pull off the cavity plate and blah blah blah..." basically identifying it to a T. Meanwhile the other cop that showed up started grilling me about my car. Its actually owned by my parents who have different last names!!! Couple that with my south carolina phone number and New York drivers license, and Michigan license plate I imagine they were getting suspicious lmao!!! I was in the navy for 6 years, so I've been around the block a few times haha.

Anyway, he gets to pick up his guitar tomorrow. The REALLY GOOD NEWS is that the dumb shit that stole it was stupid enough to sell it at guitar center!! They thumb print you and take 2 forms of id down! haha. So hopefully it leads to some arrests and this guy getting his stuff back!

Bottom line, Im a guitarist/musician for quite some time. I took a hit in the wallet, but I should get that back, and hopefully he gets his stuff back, most importantly his dad's les paul! That would break my heart, but he has hope now!!!

And last but not least, I joined this forum because Id like to be apart of a community that really looks after each other. I hope the guy that did all this crap gets whats comin to him!!! Im sure he will chime in soon :p

haha still sucks for me! :p gotta go bug guitar center now for my money back! haha.

No in all seriousness, Ill take a monetary hit for this guy. I cant stand thieves, but I think stealing instruments deserves the death penalty. He was real cool about it considering, and I cant imagine how GOOD he must feel he finally has a lead!

Just convince him to sell me those blazes for a good cost and Ill walk away with a smile :p *hint hint* haha

Welcome aboard and HELL YES for being so gracious about the whole situation. :2thumbsup:

So yes everybody, as stated the Ibanez was mine and I now have it back, other than being beat up pretty badly, it's back. Hopefully this leads to recovering my other stuff back.

I have those old "Blaze" pickups if you want them, they are yours, no charge!!

Glad to hear this news my friend!
Hope you get the rest of the gear back soon.

I wouldnt call it "gracious" more of a ... "justice is served" feeling ;) Dude, I was scared at that first cop. I just saw his gun, which is why I turned around and shook his hand. Luckily I saw the badge! My fight-or-flight instinct was in overdrive for a moment haha

and hell yeah I want those pickups ;) those things are awesome, I cant believe you desecrated that perfectly good guitar with emgs ;)

I put up my rig list... if anyone sees anything stolen lemme know! haha

WOW!!!!

Outstanding news considering GC does fingerprint when they buy or take trades.

Good for you who had more than they bargained for at a buy, I would have shit

Congrats and nice work Dale!

Good peeps in this world, lots of good peeps here at RT
