Just bought the VHT 2/50/2, and I'm going to order the Axe. I was going to order a Cameron but I think the wait would drive me insane. The Axe is the something thing I haven't tried, I'm sick of buying and selling amps. I'm thinking of getting 2 Bogner 2-12 cabs. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Anyone have recommendations on anything let me know. Vin 30's sound good with it?

I prefer to run it to FOH and through a FRFR monitor rather than through a power amp and guitar cab, but each option has it's own +/-. Welcome to the sickness...I'll be updating my firmware and tweaking patches all week for my gig on Saturday

Cool....I should be getting a standard as soon as I can sell a couple of my cabinets. I had an ultra about a year ago but I think a standard will be ok for me for awhile. I'm just going to run direct to PA.

congrats! The axe is killer!

Standard or Ultra?

Congrats! All this Axe-Fx buzz is giving me GAS to get one again!

I ran mine through my old ADA rig - ADA B200S solid state power amp, and 4 ADA 2x12 split stacks - sounded great. Then I went FRFR which took some getting used to, but worth it IMO. I use a ToneLab LE into FRFR for a budget version which gets the vintage tones I dig.

If you run it through a guitar amp/cab, be sure to have the cab sims off (I didn't and thought it sounded like a blanket was over my speakers...then I read the manual, turned of the cabs and big improvement into the ADA rig; and depending on the amp/cab you use, it may color your tones.

I've been contemplating taking the plunge for several years. Still haven't pulling the trigger. In the meantime, I've went through a bunch of gear! LOL

Love to hear your thoughts on running it through the VHT. I really like the sound Mark gets running it through an ART solid state amp.

I'm in the same boat and sick of buying gear so I'll see what this brings. God I hope I can get it to sound good!!!!

Man, I love my rig but I just went to the Dr. today for back issues. Been lugging halfstacks for almost 20 years now and I think it's starting to take it's toll on my lower back. Axe-Fx might be in my future if I want to keep playing out.

Go into this thinking it will stop you and have a positive attitude, give it a chance. The Axe FX is amazing and has great effects and can model amps incredibly well. If you go into this with a positive attitude you may never sway from the Axe FX.

The AXE is great, but it didn't stop me from buying gear....

Now I have GAS for power amps. I started with an Axe Ultra and an ART SLA-2, then had to order another matching cab for stereo, then got the Fryette 2/50/2, ordered a Mako Mak4 preamp, bought an sold a Cameron modded Marshall, bought an Uberschall, bought a Mills Classic cabs for the more vintage amp sims of the AXE and today have a brand new Fryette 2/90/2 being delivered.

I'm gonna sell the ART at some point. I don't use it. I prefer the tube power amp with the AXE alot more. No matter how hard I try with the ART, it just doesn't sound as good to me as when I use the Fryette 2/50/2. I got the 2/90/2 as well - as I've read that may work better for leaving the power-amp sims of the Axe on (vs. off with the 2/50/2).

The key to making the AXE sound good, IMO, is learning how to use both a Parametric EQ and Graphic EQ in all of your patches.

I joined the Fractal club a few weeks ago and have held off posting any opinions till I could run it through it's paces extensively, WOW says it all!

I have a Standard. I was on the fence for the last couple years getting one too because I would have to sell off my amp, but the resale is so good on the Axe that I figured I should at least give it a fair chance.

Sold off my head and 4x12, pedals.... Smartest thing I have done for tone and my back

I think one of the most powerful tools of the Axe is its IR section...it's amazing how well you can dial in the sound and feel associated with different cabs/speakers/mics. In my expereince, those nuances are lost when running through a power amp and guitar cab which bring their own color to the party instead of offering a transparent reproduction of of what you've dialed in. That's not necessarily bad, just limiting to a degree...my Axe sounded great through a 2:90 and 4x12 with 75w Celestions but that power amp/speaker combo have their own voice that comes through no matter how I set my IRs (or turn them off).
With a FRFR (I'm using the FBT Verve 12ma), I can get a live sound very close to what I hear at low volume (some minor eq adjustments necessary for stage volume) or even through headphones...it's like a "complete" signal that needs no further coloration. Portability is nice too...I can take my small rack anywhere, plug direct into a PA, and know what I'm gonna sound like without having to carry a speaker cab and power amp (my powered FRFR weighs about 40lbs...and isn't even necessary at times depending on the FOH system).
In a nutshell, both options will offer stellar tone but using the Axe like a regular preamp/multi effects unit limits it somewhat. My opinion of course...YMMV.
