I have put both of my 5150 cabinets up for sale. Looking to finally upgrade and have come down to retro-marshall reissue cabinets with V30's, or Diezel cabinets. I really like what i hear in the Diezel cabinets, not sure what it is but they all have a distinct character that i like for the style of music that i play.

Question though, V30s front vs rear loaded, which is most commonly ordered or preferred? There are not enough soundclips to go around demonstrating the benefits or drawbacks of each.

Anyone running them and if so any studio time? Benefits? Drawbacks?

Amplifiers are a modded 5150 II and a 1994 Tremoverb 120W Head.

hey,

i used a diezel rear loaded 4x12 for the past few years and now use a 2x12fl with my hagen and its superb.
i can play anything from rockabilly to drop c stuff and it really covers all bases.,diezel cabs well worth the extra $$ , i dont know what they do but there is some voodoo magic going on as they just sound massive for a 2x12!

Overall, I think the consensus is that the FLs are more contemporary, and the RLs more traditional. I've had an RL V30, FL V30 and FL K100 - all Diezel 4x12s - and I ended up keeping the FL K100. I just like how it opens up more when the volume gets cranked. My reasons for the K100 over the V30 are just personal preference...I find the Ks to be more neutral and definitely more thumpin', whereas the V30s have 'that bite' but I don't need 'that bite' with my Diezel amps.

Thanks Mo, that was exactly what i was looking for. Ill shoot for the front loaded cabinet.

going to sell my combo as well and pick up a port city 2x12 - make double use of my amplifier investments.

appreciate the help

+1 on the FL. Use the style of speaker (vintage or contemporary) that fits your needs. The FL's fill the stage better than RL's IMO, I agree with what Ventura said they open up more when you crank the amp. I'm also a fan of "neutral" sounding speakers. I run a 2x12 FL w/an 100 watt Einstein. And switch between EV's and G12-65's. Haven't tried the K100's yet but I will be soon. ALOT of the Diezel guys are using them, never been a fan of V30's myself but if thats your style than go with it

I can´t imagine to have a sound that isn´t coloured by V30´s!
Too many years of using them.

FL V30!

I bought a Diezel FL 4x12 as well and became a huge fan of the mix between V30 and G12K100 in X-pattern.
Can really recommend that! Before it was wired left/right and I was able to compare them side by side.
To me V30s alone are to harsh and G12K100 dont have enough bite+color.
Together they are a perfect mix. Speaking from a high gain/metal/lead-perspective ;-)

IMO the FL is less versitile than the RL and more directional. However It'd be nice to have a FL but my 2 RL Diezel X pattern of V30/Diezel Custom 4x12s fit the bill for me - a perfect balance for me. The cleans sparkle and the brutality is awesome. The RL just have a very versatile unique warm/heavy vibe that suits my hard rock/heavy metal needs.

As always it's personal preference and if you have the opportunity try them both out for a good deal of testing.

The RL V30 4x12 is darker, has more bottom end and "feels looser" (thats just my opinion) then the FL V30 4x12, but has a very similar mid-contour. Both cabs still have a lot more low end then any marshall 4x12 (but you never really need it live or in the mix).

Hello glpg80. I have two Diezel RL 4x12s with a x-pattern of 2xV30 and 2xDiezel customs. I’ve played the FL but loaded with the 100s. I find that the RL are more versatile/flexible, very spectacular sparkling cleans and at the same time brutal when needed.

I also find that the FL are more directional but also brutal but the cleans don’t come close to my x-pattern config.

Mind you though, I play a Herbert - the finest cleans out of all the Diezel offerings - IMO. Herbert is just the Space Shuttle of monster amplification.

Best thing is to A/B the RL/FL and you are the ultimate judge. I could tell you that Subway makes the lamest sandwiches on the market and that Denny’s sandwiches rule.

It all comes down to what "you hear" and are satisfied with. We all have our own preferences.

Enjoy your Hagen - you will be pleasantly overjoyed!
