Satch owned those tunes! I thought he was a MUCH better fit than Steve Morse in Deep Purple.
Hand it to Satch, Blackmore bailed in the middle of a tour, Satch learned the tunes quickly and played like a boss.

I agree on all points. Satch is the MAN.

I stood 3 feet in front of Morse when the Dregs played at Slim's in San Francisco. He was amazing in that band. His solo stuff is killer as well, but him playing in Deep Purple was a big letdown. Hard pass.

Exactly! I saw Steve w/ the Dixie Dregs, Dregs, Solo and a few seminars. Amazing player but not a good fit in Purple.

I can't get over a 17 year old Christopher Cross being asked to fill in for Richie. Imagine at 17 being in that position.....and yes...satch killed it....

Slims was a great club. I think that’s where I saw Holdsworth on the Road Games tour. I never felt so bad about my own playing as I did on the drive home.

I was always surprised how long Steve lasted in Purple. Wasn’t a good match in my opinion.
