Last night, my delay pedal, a Visual Sound H20, decided to die. Its a dual pedal and oddly enough, just the delay is broken, and not the chorus. When I turn the delay on, the effect doesn't happen. Instead I get this weird noise that sounds like a cross between a bad tube and a fuzz box. I don't know a thing about repairing a circuit or what to look for, so now I have one huge chorus pedal. Maybe I can find someone to fix it, or maybe I should just sell it off as a chorus pedal that needs work on the delay part of it.

In the meantime, can I have some recommendations for a good delay pedal? I tend to use delay's very subtly in the front of my rig as I don't like the FX loops. also, before I got the h20, I tried the MXR Carbon copy and line 6 multi-effect delay and didn't like them.

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

Look out, here comes the wave of Flashback recommendations.

Pick up a Boss DD3 - built like a tank and very cost effective too :)

And why not, the flashback is a great pedal.

I TOTALLY agree!

After re-reading my post it did come off kind of douche-esq :D Didn't intend to be. I intended it to be interpreted as I would recommend it, and many will also after me. It's the delay flavor of the month, and should be because it is a great pedal.

I also really like my DD-5's, its similar to the DD-3 but has the external tap input.

Boss DD, Hardwire or Flashback on the cheaper side. Strymon if your wanting to spend a few bucks.

Diamond Memory Lane Jr.
Empress Vintage Modified Super Delay
Strymon Brigadier / El Capistan
Providence Chrono Delay (fyi, steve_k is selling one...)

i've got the El capistan and a boss dd-6 on the board atm, my ears seem to prefer the dd-6 when used in front of a dirty amp (a JCM800 in my case) , it's clearer + cuts through better, considering redoing the board at this stage , the El capistan has more mojo , orgasmic on clean tones

i'm guessing you didnt' like the carbon copy in front of an amp as it was too muddy/dark sounding ?

get one of these used and you should be good to go
Boss DD 3 , 5 , 6 , 7
Digitech Digiverb (has a killer modulated delay setting too )

otherwise the flashback will indeed serve you well, might be overkill for your needs , but options are always good

Been through most.. also the Diamond ML2, JR, Strymons etc. Best sounding and best mixing with your tone of all delays was the Diamond ML2... daamn nice sounding delay. The JR is also great but too bright for me, and it has no tone knob.

I went back to the Flashback time and time again. Such a bang for the buck, and it sounds/mixes insanely well for a digital delay in that class. The Analog setting is just great... a nobrainer.

Waiting for a Echoczar... it will take time tho.

Rossness, unless I am mistaken, you tend to lean more towards gainier modules with your Randall stuff. No matter what pedal you try, they will almost all sound like shit out front. You might get away with it if you do something like use a plexi for crunch and then stack OD's on top with the delay. (which i don't think you do that much unless I am mistaken). I would send it back to them. Don't they pride themselves on good customer support?? One email will let you know. Fail that, if you like the echo side of their pedal, why not try another one of their delays or the garage tone delay. I think that if you didn't like the carbon copy (which is supposed to be one of the few out front that people like) , you might be out of luck. Unfortunately, the loops of the Randall stuff kinda sucks so it is a double whammy. Perhaps time for you to go wet/dry. I feel your pain though, it is tough finding the sound in your head. I am all over the place too constantly thinking i can improve this or that.

I got the pedal used on ebay for $120, so even though the product has a lifetime warranty, I don't believe its transferable between owners.

I barely want to use any delay- just a smidge. I'm going for that 1980's Dokken kind of thing, with delay/ chorus used lightly.
