Good choice on the Carbon Copy.

Other recommendations:
-Flashback
-Alter Ego v2
-Boss DD-3 with analog mod
-Ibanez AD9 (analog)
-Ibanez DE7 (digital, but great sounding Echo mode)

I have this packaged in a Kotzen fly-rig...I guess this is a standalone more detailed pedal. May have to check this out as I really like that delay on the fly-rig.

yikes, starting to collect delays now like vibe pedals...

Boss DD3 - tried and true by the pros, easy to use, sounds great

Hey,
Im looking to buy a delay pedal. I want a nice simple pedal thats easy to use. Im not looking to cover any over the top delay tones. Looking for something that sounds great for 80s metal. Can anyone make some suggestions?
Thanks, Paulie
HardWire is hard to beat - incredible lil' pedal. And I've gone through a mess of them. Simplicity? Cannot beat the HardWire series of stomps. Tone? Definitely not. Versatility and price and quality? Absolutely - hands down - HardWire.

The best for high gain is the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay

Another vote for DD3. I'm mostly analog, but that's the one digital delay I have - an old one from the 80s.

Love my Brigadier for high gain leads. The notes just kind of melt away.

I am using a few different delays. Boss DD7, Carbon Copy, Strymon El Capistan (echo) and my H9s. I played with a DIG and I liked it as well. I use the El Capistan more than anything else because it's just an awesome tape echo pedal that doesn't muddy.

Strymon DIG dual digital delay which has a couple modes that emulate old 80's rack mount gear plus one modern mode. I have a DIG, Carbon Copy and TC Flashback X4 on my board. They will all get you some great 80's tones. The Flashback X4 and Strymon DIG are both hard to beat for the money.

This! DIG nails 80s (and modern). I have the DIG and CC and love both.

I just got an echo puss. I REALLY like it at this price point and use it with high gain. I just wanted to avoid the carbon copy as everyone has one, wanted something different. After MANY delay pedals I decide digital was not for me. Then i tried all the analog but many were also not for me. HATED the waza-craft.

SMD chips, made by dunlop doesnt go 100 percent wet but sounds GREAT to me.

Check it out. I use it mostly without modulation but when the time calls for it it is also really nice. Not too warbly and over the top. Also has a repeats tone knob so it will do bright and dark sounds.

Thanks for all the advice and info guys. I picked up an old 80's Boss DD2. Best move I made.
