Delay...

Who uses delay "on all the time" in mono with rythm and leads with moderate gain/crunch to add a bit of ambience? Iv been doing this with my tc flashback on the 2290 setting set to one repeat pretty low in the mix. Figured I would get some opinions on this or if its in the norm to do so.
 
I suppose this works if your a couch warrior, or play in a 1 guitar band playing certain music? In a band with 2 guitars playing rhythm in unison I say that's a cardinal sin. The other guitarist in my old band tried to do that when we first started playing together and I had to put a beat down on that idea right away. I will say that he had his delay way to much in the mix though. I suppose if you use it very sparingly it could work. I always played rhythm dry and used delay for my leads o spice it up a bit. I LOVE ambient tones used in the right situations, but hard rock unison rhythm is not one of em!
 
Yeah, when I was in a 2 guitar band we had no effects at all on the rhythm parts. But now I pretty much only play at home, I have my flashback X4 set on the 2290 mode with a real short delay running most of the time..

I do the same thing now that I only play a home. It sounds great if your just noodling around by yourself. :thumbsup:
 
I've done this for years in 2 guitar bands, it works fine. The other guitarist didn't use any effects though, so that might have helped a little. The trick is to use it as an ambient effect. One or two repeats, with a hi cut so it's subtle. It'll be a little more noticeable on solos if your sound guy turns you up.

I normally will use a Chandler Echo, but sometimes an SDE3000.

only when I play 50's/60's stuff at home, with slapback echo.

Playing live, my Carbon Copy and Boss RE-20 (both pretty dark, 2-3 repeats) only come on during leads or clean stuff.
 
Yeah, I normally have on a bit of a slapback or a very low-level circular or panning delay to add some space and texture behind the notes, more like a cool reverb than a clear and repeating echo-echo-echo. This is for rock playing, though.
 
I do the exact same thing as the OP. Same pedal and everything. I like Delay as a subtle effect and set it and forget it.

I have delay on for every type of music i play in EVERY situation. On all my Kemper profiles I have a tape delay and run it mono live through a guitar cab and power amp.

When using the Splawn I use the Old Bloodnoise Endeavors Black Fountain as the "always on" delay set to approx 550ms and 2 repeats mixed VERY low. This particular delay seems to do something cool to my overall tone. I then use either my Servus Yodelmaster or Moog MF Delay for leads with a higher mix.

I actually just bought the Moog MF Delay to run in front of my Vox AC15 because my Yodel didn't sound as great out front of it. I was absolutely NOT willing to not have delay on all the time.

Here's a clip I did noodling around with the Vox, Moog and Arc Soothsayer which is a killer RAT based pedal!

 
I have two delays on my board. One is set for a little slapback and is on all the time. The other is a longer delay for soloing or Slow ambient notes and chords. The two together have 'spillover' and are seamless
 
The other guitarist in my band uses delay all the time while I play with almost zero effects. I use a little delay on the occasional lead otherwise just a boost for solos. As long as one both guys don't run it all the time you should be fine
 
You guys aren't running delay in a thrash/death/xcore/Racer-X context though, are you??
 
The el cap can be left on all the time if you have the level around 3- 4 oclock with a darker setting. It helps to have the tape bias raised to around noon or more.
 
I used to use effects but for the last 8 years ive pretty much been a no effects at all dry as hell dude
