HAMER!

First Tune-o-matic, first set-neck, first LP-alike in general, so we'll see how it goes, but I'm super excited! The switch position is way out of the norm for me, so that may throw me a little too.

One minor quibble though...what the hell were they thinking with the boat oar of a headstock?

The subject made me think you were getting a new hat.

Cool guitar.

Thanks guys, really looking forward to it! I'm also interested to see if the SD 59's work out, I'll give them a chance before I blow them out for something else like Seths or 36ths. Report to follow!

Quick update, this guitar is pretty amazing! Definitely a different flavor for me, but I like it a lot. I would never have thought the SD 59's would have as much output as they seem to in this guitar. There are a few dings in the top as well as around the headstock, but it sounds great and plays pretty great as well. Man, check out a Hamer Studio if you get the chance!

Hamer guitars is one of the best kept secrets on the WWW
Its really hard to beat them for what they go for used, Ive had around a dozen of them go threw my hands and not one of them was a dog.

What Hamer model would you guys recommend for metal or fast playing shred style?

Exactly the case here; this has seen some use, no doubt about it, but even so, I get the impression the resale amount doesn't touch the value of the instrument on clean guitars. Why these don't get talked about more, besides the name on them perhaps, I don't know. I know Digi Yams always speaks well of Hamer, I can see why.

Some of it has do to with timing. Older Hamer's are the Hamers to have. Hamer used to be a small run, all hands on company. I think there were maybe 6 employees there. All their USA guitars were hand made, period. Then they got bought out by Kaman Music Corp in 1988. Since then Kaman was bought out by Fender around 2008. In 2011 Fender stopped all production of USA Hamer guitars, so now they're all imports. Hamer was one of, if not the first boutique guitar companies.
