Anyone know what warren used for this show?
https://youtu.be/VIwLRfuTcko?t=1m56s
Amp wise he is using LANEY AOR pro tube 100's but what is he using to get that real liquid like lead tone? and i know he has a Duncan JB loaded in the crossed swords charvel.
The verb is real heavy but he has something else going on in that tone?
it is real aggressive but has that liquid quality i like, light pitch detune?

Like SFW mentioned volume. He may have bumped the signal with a Tube Screamer or Boss overdrive.

That is a killer hard rock lead tone. He rips.

Highly doubt this was a Laney... more likely a Marshall boosted with an SD-1. Effects chain was more than likely a Lexicon PCM 41 for the chorus (I can hear it on everything in this video), a Lexicon PCM 60 verb and a Lexicon PCM 42 for delay. Good chance he also had the Furman PQ series parametic EQ...this is what was in his rack around this time (or shortly there after).

This is correct.. and volume as stated above. The natural compression and pushback only comes with power amp pump! He loved those PCM rack units but he only uses a little pedal now or gets his delay post speaker from the front.

He also had that plexi modified by jose.. I think the last time it was used was on the song nobody rides for free.. its was used all over the dancing undercover record... just a great sounding amp.

That is the huge chorus that Lexicon PCM41 and 42's are famous for. Splitting two amps into stereo with this unit, I soaked everything in that back in the day.

So the laney stacks were just for show???
You can see them behind warren during this show(ROCK PALACE)
there is not a marshall on his side, robin has marshalls on his side.
look behind warren as the spot light crossing his amps here,

Rock palace is my favorite live playing from demartini, he was young and real hungry at the time and the tone was great! ;)

We used to watch that concert religiously in high school. :)

People that lump RATT in with some of the crappy bands of that era, don't realize the impact they had back then. When they were first hitting the scene, there was only a few metal bands doing that type of stuff. It got diluted later on, but in the early 80's, they were leading the charge.

Same here! I had it on VHS when it first aired and it was a much better looking tape(everything was a lot clearer and in focus) than what is on YT.
Do you know about the LANEY's behind warren on this show?
I KNOW he normally used marshalls but on this show he had a back line of LANEY AOR pro tube stacks?
Me and my cousin both noticed it right away back in 84 when we saw this Rock palace show
and his tone is slightly different.
"out of the cellar" is marshall and a super champ he used for the leads.
Got to get a lexicon PCM for that chorus and verb.
Using a rocktron intellifex and replifex now and can get close but the lexicon stuff is just superior.

I do quite a bit of backline work and have worked with a ton of 80's bands. What you see on stage and what they use are often two very different things. From memory Robin did use Laney's a bit but Warren never really did he just had them in his head racks as back ups... I could be wrong.

If you've had one of those Laney's you will know that while they can sound really good, an old school Marshall sounds better. VOLUME is key. A JCM800 or JMP or Plexi with the master or NMV up to levels where the power amp kicks in sounds gainy and huge. Throw in a hot pickup and clearly, those furmans and there is more than enough crunch and gain for him to get those tones. The biggest part besides his hands, is the verb and delay drench as was mentioned. You will notice Warren has always favoured that sound for his leads. He is one of my favourite players but over the years I noticed he is great when he knows the script but outside of RATT or some blues playing, he doesn't always adapt very well in other styles or with other bands. That is neither here or there though because he has written some sick riffs and lead breaks with RATT.

Oh and a side note, wtf is Pearcey wearing? White knee high boots? that guy was always such a f_cking tool.

I hope he finishes the album with Eric Martin. Really looking forward to that.
