Nice to see I'm not the only one who prefers the Air Zone over the Tone Zone. The Air Zone should be a lot more popular.
I think Larry DiMarzio, or whoever was in charge, shot himself in the foot here. The Air Zone was made for Page Hamilton, yet for years they didn’t even list him in the artist section on the website. Maybe there were ego issues involved, but regardless, they could have marketed it as the Air Zone – Page Hamilton Signature pickup.

They tend to sell more signature pickups or classic designs that have strong associations with well-known players than models without artist backing. That’s probably why pickups like the Norton and Air Zone tend to fly under the radar. Most other models have a recognizable name attached to them, which helps legitimize the product in the market.
