Here's a quick comparison clip of my Peters Amplification Ceramic 8 Bridge Pickup against the Motor City 2nd Degree Black Belt Bridge.
Apologies for my timing being out in some passages. It's been a while.
Guitar is in E Standard/Drop D tuning with 9-46 gauge strings.
Amp is my Peters GNL 50 Watter.

They both sound great with very subtle differences. It seems the motor city pup has more highs and might be overall just a hair thinner sounding. The Peters c8 seems to produce more low-mid growl, a bit throatier and just ever so slightly thicker.

Hey congratulations on having an amp named after you!! Pretty cool!!

I think the Peters Ceramic has little fuller sound to me, lower end growl.

Yup, like everyone said, fuller, more, mid bark and has a growl i love!!!!!!! Reminds me of my Gryphon with that mid bark growl i loved so much.

Great demo man

Yeah I was amazed at how similar they sounded and reacted. The Peters is like a juiced up 2DBB.
And hey cheers mate! Very cool indeed.

Yep that's exactly how I hear it. If I was to rerecord, I'd knock down the warmth on the amp a little to compensate for that ample lowend on the Peters Ceramic 8.
Really cool pickup!

I sold the Gryphon to fund my triple halo/vega/fsm. Love the amp, but i miss those mids from the Gryphon man, never heard an amp with mids like that ever. I should of kept that amp.

I do enjoy my current Peters very much though, awesome amp.

If all things are equal, and I say that because the Peters seems to have a little more amplitude on the track, I like and prefer the openness of the Peters.

Haha I feel the same way Chris. I love my GNL, but man do I wish I'd kept my old Gryphon as well. There's something really special about those Gryphon mids.

Heya Bob! :)
Yeah settings were identical on the amp, recording interface, same guitar, etc.
The pickups are a bit of a mismatch in terms of output. The MCP is about half as hot as the Peters.
But I thought it'd be interesting to compare them side by side because the tonal footprint sounded very similar when playing them in different guitars.

Hey mate, it's sounds like this pickup was tailored just for you man. I love those growls. James should send-you his new Firejack channel design to demo it (no pressure James   ).

Damn. That is one hell of a shootout.

I've been wanting to try a MCP but damn, they are so close here with the edge going to the Peters imo.

Pretty cool that MCP are some of the most highly regarded pickups and here is something that's IMO better.

I'd be happy with either TBH and they are near identical to my ears.

Was the Peters inspired by or designed around the MCP? So close in sound.

No; it was developed more with my own goals in mind. I've never heard any MC pickups in person.

Wade makes good gear...love my 2nd degree BB...
Nice playing...

This Peters pickup is: Design 1 bridge pickup with standard-sized C8 magnet, aka "BR1-C8".

Referring to this only by the type of magnet is going to cause confusion, so I figured I'd mention this now. :) I use standard size C8 magnets in all my pickups (not to mention some taller C8 magnets). Also Design 1 is available with A5 magnet. So yeah...not just "Peters C8 pickup". :)

Sorry for my confusion....Were these two pickups in the same guitar or different guitars?

I assumed the same while watching. If they were different guitars, what are the specs of each one?

Also I was curious to know if you have the "Version 2" Pickup as well?

and finally to James, are these available to order? I had my eyes set on a MCP Angel Dust but now I am curious.

Ha, I wish! I'm actually considering ordering a Peters Triple Channel. Funds are very tight at the moment though, as we are mortgaged up the wahzoo building a new house. And the wife lost her job recently. But yeah, anyways I'm not sure which design I'd order. I'm guessing that my GNL would be very close in tonality to the Firejack. So I'm fairly certain I already have that base covered.
And after hearing Oblivion DC's Body Hammer demo, well enough said. Imagine the two in stereo? :scared:

And yeah the pickup was tailored just for me. And the beauty of it is that James will tailor his pickups for anyone.
Just tell him about the guitar the pickup is for and the tonal requirements, and he will make it exactly to suit your needs. So awesome!

Hey there, thanks for the kind words. :)

Yes same guitar. It's an old Burny Les Paul.
And I'm not sure if it's the Version 2 model, but I have another Peters bridge pickup with an Alnico 8 magnet that I'm going to have installed in my Ibanez JS1200 soon. I'll do a shootout of that one also.

Really great shootout, I love my 2DBBs but the extra chunk on the Peters was \m/ ... could totally see using that, excellent!
