Derek Chauvin stabbed 22 times in prison

FWIW, this is what the coroner, Dr. Baker, stated as the cause of death: "Cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression." He also however noted, “No life-threatening injuries identified.” ...He did test positive for the 'rona though — he was in fact the only person in the whole country at the time that died with it but not because of it.

cops got railroaded-and I'm no cop lover. With that being said they should be held to higher standards. Police are out of control at times but that's the culture of the trade. And dealing with a lot of the shit they have to deal with, there's a reason they usually behave that way. Document, video and sue. Get rid of QI and you will see shit change. If I was correct in the performance of my duties with the prison system-I had a horde of DOJ lawyers to protect me. If I was outside the scope of my employment...I was fucked.....

Most people in normal jobs don't run the risk of going to jail if they f up. I don't think the Police are paid enough to warrant that risk in their employment. Also why should the Police take any risk with people when they can turn around and kill you. They have a right to come home safe at night. I don't think he did the right thing and I didn't like seeing that guy gasp for breath but he (the guy being restrained) was doing something wrong at the time and you reap what you sow. Police are targets in jail and they shouldn't be getting a death penalty when that wasn't the penalty handed down by the court. It's just wrong. Generally speaking I don't even like the Police, they are never around when you need them for something serious and they don't really do enough when it comes to those things. They are very quick to hand you a speeding or traffic fine which is low hanging fruit (at least in this country). Having said that, if they stuff up they don't deserve to be stabbed 22 times and sent to jail for life. It's just plain wrong - I hope your country loses its Police and it descends into anarchy and lawlessness - it seems that's what your nation deserves ie. be careful what you wish for.

Starting salary for an Austin cop is 70k+. So you could be a rookie making six figures if you did a lot of overtime work which is very available thanks to the way the city has crapped on it's police force since the BLM riots. They should've mowed those losers down with automatic rifles and then beat the shit out of the city council with billy clubs. It would've solved several real problems.

Who is "they" and who are the "losers" - unsure whether you mean the Police or the alleged Perps. Incidentally 6 figures is nothing that amazing these days although it is for a novice.

They=Austin police
Losers=BLM and anyone who virtue signals support for them on social media, but more specifically the losers who rioted in Austin

Six figures is a good paycheck in Texas or the southern US for that matter unless you are an oil and gas man. I guess my point is I get tired of hearing how cops are underpaid. Police chiefs are making 250k...An officer with a few years under his belt can draw 100k per years plus overtime and benefits. They get paid plenty for the mostly moron level work they do..

Well I don't really think they are undpaid per se... However, I think they are underpaid if it means any stuff up means life in prison and getting murdered though. I mean what's your life worth? I think they need to be immune from those sort of legal proceedings and just sacked as the consequence assuming it occurs to them.

No job is worth your life but some jobs just carry inherent risks. Most cops will never draw their service weapon so that tells me 100k per year is a sweet gig for the intelligence level it requires.

Eliminate all city police and instead return to Sheriffs the only constitutional LE, hat way corrupt authorities can at least be voted out. You have no recourse with a corrupt police chief as they are appointed/hired by the city. It won't fix everything, but it'd be a start.

You can look up LE salary on openthebooks.com since they are public employment. You'd be surprised how much police in even small podunk towns make. An awful lot of them in the tiny zero crime towns around me are pulling in 140k+ a year. Teachers are way worse though. Spare me the tears of making 100k+ a year for 8 months of work+amazing pension+benefits.

Yep and since there is nothing gong on when they get tired of spilling donut crumbs on the seat of their cruiser they can go harass the general public over some petty crap like parking or taking photographs. Police vs BLM is like team dirtbag vs team dumbass.

I have watched some of the aggressive first amendment auditors expose the huge money these dudes are getting to basically act like thugs all day.

Maybe an insurance policy like other high risk professions, but if you “mess up” and kill someone you should be held accountable, just like other professions. Regardless, I think that’s actually pretty rare. In practice, all qualified immunity does is enable police to abuse their authority and abuse the general public, exactly how the politicians want it.

In 2014 The National Academy of Sciences reports that 4.1% of defendants sentenced to death row are innocent.

As of Jan 1, 2023 : 2,331 inmates were on death row in the US. So if the National Academy of Sciences is correct, 95 of those 2,331 inmates on death row are innocent.

I'm for death row but it is hard to come to terms with this. I don't know man?!

That seems like an absolutely ridiculous study. How would they know that those 4.1% are innocent?

Here’s a suggestion — hold the people accountable for convicting and killing an innocent person. Like the police situation, I think the problem will sort itself out pretty quick.

I couldn't agree more! If the person is in fact innocent.

If it was you or I wrongly convicted to death row we might see things differently...

I think the most practical solution is to just do away with the death penalty, even though I believe some crimes are worthy of it.
