whenever I want to step away from listening to rock / metal ............ I throw on Miles , Coltrane ( Miles with Coltrane is great stuff )
I like Thelonius Monk a lot too .... great place to find shredders that aren't playing guitar ...
my all time favorite Coltrane

Right ??!?!?! To me it stands out against his classics ... totally different vibe on Love SupremeGriff, I'm just a minute or so into this record. Oh, my goodness. Thank you, man.

@JohnnyGtar you might enjoy this Coltrane performance on Ralph Gleasons jazz casual. Even has Elvin Jones on drums. 'Trane is the only sax player I can stand to listen on a soprano. McCoy Tyner is a killer keys player too. The whole band is legends.
I been studying a book on Coltrane and it’s amazing the math and and science the dude applied to his theory too . Some would say it’s occult like . My mind was blown
You def need to check out Charlie Parker because he is the guy who set the bar for Coltrane (and everyone else) to follow. Prior to Parker you're looking at guys like Lester Young. Another great player is Coleman Hawkins. Great big fat tone outta his horn...Bro, that's awesome music. Thank you!
Coltrane is one of the all time greats but I always have enjoyed Charlie Parker more than Coltrane, probably because it's more straight ahead with a higher blues content.
Interstellar space was too far gone for me and I like stuff like Eric Dolphys Out to Lunch and what not. Sounds like two dudes in a practice space on a crack bender but maybe that was the point, I dunno, lol.Trucks is spot on. Coltrane has so many great harmonic ideas, even his 'out there' stuff like 'Sun Ship' and 'Interstellar Space' is mind-blowing

I love both. Thank you for brining up Out to Lunch .
