What are most using on the desktop these days, especially with the Kemper profiler and AxeFX products?

Depends on your budget. Adam A7x are great but somewhat pricey. On the lower end I like Yamaha HS8.

Is there a big diff between the HS7 and HS8 .I was using the Yorkville equiv YS98 but I find them to be a lil boomy on the lows and dark

I have two sets of 5"s and no sub. It's fine. A lot of people say that 8"s are too much for a small untreated room. But really, you could use 12" 3-way home stereo speakers just for jamming.

You should go to a big music store and try some out with some familiar tunes on your phone.

I've got a pair of Yamaha HS5's with the HS10W Subwoofer and it sounded great it my Axe FX II and just as good with my Kemper.

Im rocking the Dynaudio's here. They are pricey but damn they are accurate for mixing. Im selling my old M_Audios if you want them
