Did anyone else have a great tone day today?

Holy crap, my rig killed today. maybe it was my ears.

I took a Dimarzio OEM pickup (PAF Pro equivalent), and swapped the alnico 5 magnet for an '87 Ibanez ceramic magnet. I also removed one spacer.

It is now a half-airbucking, ceramic paf pro. It sounded like a perfectly balanced, higher-output PAF. PERFECT!!!

I was playing the cheese factory rack through the 2150 and a VHT 412.

just perfect. It sounded huge, smooth, not muddy, not too bright, etc.

unreal.

That's it.

Those days are great! What's in your main rack these days, Gene?

I only played for like 1½h because my playing was so bad. It was one of those days you can't do anything to get your playing to the level where it's at normally. I can't say what my rig sounded like because I've been w/o a poweramp for 1½ months now. Someone should kick Mesa in the ass for not manufacturing my 2:90... :gethim:

Who did??????

:hys:

I've been waiting for my 2:90 about 3 months now. Last time I heard something about it was a bit over a month ago when the shop where I bought it from contacted Mesa but they were unable to say any delivery date. My rig has been unused since early December when I sold my 2:Fifty.

I had a great tone day yesterday too. I threw your old greenbacks in one of my cabs to give them another shot and they sounded great. The low B sounded a bit muddy, but the mids and highs were sooooooo sweet.

I just swapped a bunch of preamp tubes in my Splawn and finally found a combo that I liked....I still think my bias is off a little bit. I need to buy a bias-rite and just be done with it

You have one heck of a rig there bro!

Thanks, man.

and as for preamp tubes, I just retubed (where necessary) my IE-4.

New JJ ECC83S in V1, various older CHinese 12AX7's everywhere else. Immediately noticeable improvement. Like 15% noticeable, and it ALREADY sounded great.

Good luck on the probe!

Had mine yesterday, here is the proof of it (I had to record straight away):

Good rig sound days are the best days!!

Has anyone any experience about using a Furman power conditioner and getting their rig to sound same from a day to another?

What a kickass rig, Gene! I think it's the same rig of which you posted a pic 2-3 weeks ago.

correctomundo!

I really went all out and spent most of a Sunday putting this rig together. I even sorted through all of my rack screws and matched up the exact washers and everything I wanted to use.

The only problem now is programming everything. I have the HK access phantom powering the ADA Pedal and sending Midi PC commands on four channels.

I had to make like a spreadsheet with the different sounds I want.

When it's done, it will be even cooler!

Make some vids of your rig when you get it all programmed and explain different settings in that vid! It'd be cool as f**k.

I wish that I'll find an used 8U shockmount rack soon to be able to wire my rig with GeorgeL's cables etc. Only rack units that are causing me some GAS are: Dunlop DCR-2SR, Eventide Eclipse or TC Electronic G-Force, Furman PL-8+, Korg DTR2000. Also Axess Electronics FX-1 and an Ernie Ball volume pedal and an EB expression pedal would be cool. That's my dream rig when not counting in guitars. :)

you know what? I thinkthe EBMM pedal is a tone sucker out front. That 250K pot in there kinda defeats the purpose of the 500K pot in the guitar.

When I took it off of the pedal board, I heard an instant tonal improvement.

I'm still considering a Low Z volume pedal for between the preamp and delay unit though.

i'm liking my tone better today....got 6l6's in my JSX....put a JJ ECC83s in V1, Chinese 9th Gen in V2, V3, and put the tungsol in phase inverter....quite nice

Sounds like a good way to set that up.

I'll bet the difference is more than noticeable.

I always have great tone but sometimes my playing is lacking, sometimes my ears are shot and on and on it goes. Its hard to say why some days just shine and others seem hampered by whatever. For me it always pays to feel inspired to play which usually is the case but sometimes I just fall off the horse. Or maybe its the humidity.

quite a difference....gain is less fizzy and more of a growl....the 6l6's really tame the mids in the JSX which were always a little harsh with the el34's...i like this preamp tube configuration at the moment also...think i'll keep this way for awhile
