Did anyone keep their VHT Sig-X or EVH 5150 III?

I hated the 5150III. Some guys got decent tone out theirs, but I thought the 2nd channel needed more gain and the 3rd channel had way to much hair on it. Honestly I'td take the first 2 versions over the third without hesitation.

I thought the 5150III was pretty cool, but I liked my Cameron a lot more, so I offed it. The amp didnt feel that good to me, and the mids were not voiced the way I like. Hate it, no, but I didnt think it was amazing either. Just average.

Sort of the way I felt about. Had it for awhile and returned it within the 30 day period at Long&McQuade. Fun, just liked my 50W Avenger more.

Its a shame the Camerons arent readily available or have a 2 month build wait like most builders.

Agreed. I've played/heard a bunch of his amps and every one of them put a smile on my face

Of all the 3 channel switchers Ive had the Sig X was up there but I liked the Elmwood Modena and Bogner XTC better. Never owned 5150 III but played one once and wasnt my thing. I agree with the poster who said it's feel wasnt what I like.

That said.....I still think the Sig X is one of the better channel switchers.

Owned them both, and sold them both. I did like them, just other stuff I like better. You can get great with the discounts going on at the online dealers every few weeks.

Never got a chance to try the EVHIII head. I guess after reading all the BS and argueing over this head on the Splawn forum, I just never wanted to try it. When it came out several guys over on that forum bought the EVHIII and loved it, Well as you can guess that did not sit well at all with the chosen ones that could not bear to even read the typed opinions of the ones that DID ACTUALLY LIKE THE AMP. So just the task of reading all of their Bullshit just made me wash my hands of it. And dulled my interest in trying the EVHIII. :gethim: That whole conversation and debate over there made more than a few guys permanently leave that forum. And that forum was never the same in my opinion. I don't say that as a jab, as I am still a current member over there, but the truth, is THE TRUTH!

Manufacturer specific forums are a little different in that regard compared to general gear forums where anything goes basically.

I always wanted to try the 5150 III but I heard about reliability issues that kind of spooked me away from it, and for $500 more than it's price new you are in used boutique territory imo...

The Sig X was so massively hyped that no matter how good it was some people expected nothing short of a divine miracle when it came out, and were thus let down.

Didn't the Sig X have some sort of technical issues on initial launch as well?

Leading up to the Sig X launch I was interested and following it closely but than my interest deflated and was no longer on my radar...

I have read about 5 or 6 people with SIG-X problems within the last year.

I still have my Sig, but unfortunately mine came from the first batch so it's in the shop for a modification that, hopefully, solves the problem...
Having said that, I don't think the amp is going anywhere soon because I really like it; tight, but not too tight with so many toneshaping options it's quite easy to dial in three great channels for my classic rock.

I don't think it's the amp for you Carl; it's too far from a plexi-style amp for you I think...

Giga.

You are very correct my good friend. But then there are a small few forums where, ........... :aww: .........SHIT HAPPENS!
:loco: Sad but true!     Atleast on here there seems to be enough air space to step around the select few boxing matches that take place in here.

I agree with what you guys mentioned about the 5150-III already. It was one of those amps I wanted to like but it just fell a bit short. Had a weird voicing with the mids that went from too scooped to too much with a slight turn of the knob.

As I'm getting older I'm learning that you should plug into an amp and instantly be like "oh yeah, I must own". As soon as it gets to the "meh, well what about this", etc. then the shopping should end.

There are a few amps I'v plugged into over the past year or two that I had that instant love. The Camerons are a given. Sounds awesome. I heard a Splawn-modded Marshall that I really liked as well.

I agree with that. I have not been able to get a Splawn modded marshall yet. They say that those marshalls are some of Scott's best work.

Siggie...

Still have it, still dig it...my fave channel switcher.

Im thinking of revisiting the VM

I will own another again!! I know it can sound a little thin at lower volumes but so do most amps. Cranked its a thick screaming Plexi style amp with a growl to the mids I don't hear in other amps.

I would still like to try out the Sig-X, but some had reliability problems, and that scared me away.

I keep seeing that kinda shit pop up and here's how I see it...I bring redundant gear to gigs where I carry my own gear or do cartage. When I'm out of town it's flying by the seat of my pants rental crap Fender red knob stuff anyways.
But for the live of me I will never understand folks getting an amp and changing bias and tubes and what not instead of even getting acquainted with it.
Anyways, none of the "reliability" stuff I've seen on the forums is something I was too worried about..
