Following the Lynch 1991 thread, here is Zakk a JCM 800 2203, boss sd 1, chorus, and a wah= the good old days.... this tone is definitely dead these days as I cant even make out half of what he plays its so uber distorted... what happened

I guess I have to repeat myself again.
All the guitar hero's sounded better when they used Marshall's.
It's a fact that cannot be disputed.

Well, Lynch was using Soldano in '91 ;) , but there's a whole lotta truth in this statement.

Vai sounded better when he used Bogner IMO
You could argue Clapton sounded better with Fenders
Etc.

I'm also a fan of unfounded blanket statements, but not this one

No he didn't
No you can't
Unfounded? It's a fact. The classic albums and tones were mostly Marshall's. Rock stuff. Guitar hero material.

OK, I guess it's a fact
Hetfield sounded better on Kill 'Em All than he did on Master Of Puppets?
Hendrix also used Fenders in the studio...
Guess SRV is neither rock nor a hero
+ Everybody else that has used Fender, Vox, Mesa over the years

This feels like junior high/old harmony central

Indeed, with statements like "Everybody sounds better with Marshalls", what can you expect

For real.

I for one think today's amp completely destroy the old school amps.

Even the newer "plexis" like Bray sound better to my ears.

Times have changed and one thing will always hold true newer technology will surpass the older.

And John Sykes on Whitesnake 1987 and Blue Murder S/T with the Mesa Mark III Coliseum!!!

I'm afraid you lost any credibility you may have had in your "tune to G" thread. Your opinion is now null and void on this forum sir. Thank you......

I read somewhere that Keith Olsen (producer of Whitesnake 1987) plugged John into a Marshall combo (plugged into a 4x12 cab) for that album, the Boogies went on tour when Olsen wouldn't sell the amp to John...

Must be why no one buys stock Marshall's anymore, ever.

My vh4 slapped the face of any real marshall I had that I put it up against.

I'll agree marshall stumbled across a wonderful cascade of filters resulting in great frequency response for guitars, the thing is it was still coarse and needed some refinement which is why so many modified clones exist.

Marshall's improve with some tweaking.

So I say no, I disagree.
