From what I understand there is a mod that gives the amp less compression. Havent heard it personally but it might be interesting....

I have heard this mod in person with Diezels and other amp brands. HUGE difference. I was speechless I must admit. If you don't like compression this is it. Super open, punchy and responsive on the clean channels and much more articulate and clarity, much more cut through on the overdrive. With the modern amps I heard it was a difference like day and night, not subtle. But that is of course my personal opinion.

It is DEFINITELY an Awesome thing to have done.

Won't say more about it, but it hath awakened the beast!

Diezels typically use a metric assload of negative feedback. You lower the neg feedback slightly, it may result in a less compressed or "squished" feel and tone. I won't go into details about how to do it. I'm just saying that's one way to go about it.

I'm an engineer by day and this mod I was referring to (and I got it done) had only little to do with negative feedback, but creatively "editing" the preamp circuit where most of the compression is happening. The neg. feedback is necessary to prevent the tone from getting harsh.
