Hey guys,

First posts on the forum here! What my deal is that I am kinda of a vintage Marshall guy but have recently gotten to the point that I want to find a newer amp that can give me that vintage vibe yet still have enough tube saturation to provide that nice liquidy lead tone...read Hendrix/SRV/Schon....blah blah.
I am NOT looking for a hardcore metal amp. I need something that covers SRV to Ozzy to Journey to .well you get the idea..lol!

Anyway, most of the Diezel clips I hear are what I feel is the heavy stuff but there are a few clips out there that caught my attention....RandomHero was one guy and the other I can't remember but he was playing a bugundy Suhr Strat and was very bluesy/tubey sounding. Both guys were playing Einsteins (50W I believe). So my issue here is where in NJ can I find one to actually one in stock to hear it for myself? Who are the Diezel dealers in the area?

Also, if anybody has any additional clips that you think might shed a little more light on the perception that Diezels are really only high gain heavy style amps please share!

Thanks,
PaulP

Hi Paul,

Welcome aboard  Terry the Diezel USA rep will chime in shortly I am sure and point you in the right direction for New Jersey.

Hey hey,, First post here on the Diezel Board. Paul i remember that Russo music out near trenton had a VH4 and a Herbert some time ago. I havent seen one there in some time so i dont think they sell diezels anymore. Being from Jersey as well i fell there is a big shortage of acceptable music stores. Anyways good luck on you quest.

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried Russo Music yesterday because I remembered seeing one in there a while back also, but no joy. They apparently are no longer a Diezel dealer.

Get over it -

I had a large Marshall collection and loved the tone of Marshalls...until I was made aware of Diezels back in 2002. After buying my first Diezel amp, a VH4, unseen and unheard, I sold the Marshalls and have never even looked at another amp company.

I was originally born and raised N.J., but all of my Diezel amps were received without any playing, or actually even hearing samples of them, and after I moved to Florida.

If you like what you have heard, you will have no problem getting any tone you desire from an Einstein 50.

Welcome to the forum.

Hey, Paul - (a word of advice) since you’re in the market for a Diezel, (hopefully a Herbert). Do yourself a HUGE favor and do not take into account any of the negative reviews that you may read on that Sanford & Son junk yard site appropriately known as the harmony circle jerk fan boy club.

Those n00bs that attempt to jump on the Diezel band wagon usually have no clue (let alone any noticeable talent) as how to work and dial in a great all tube guitar amp like any from the Diezel line. I don’t care if you’ve owned dozens of booteek junk one-hit-wonders, the Diezel line of impeccable guitar amplifiers are in a league unparalleled to any other guitar amp attempting to join "his" class and stature. If you want tone de jure and endless head room in the clean zone then you got Herbert. If you want every Plexi tone imaginable and vintage gain and crunch tone beyond, then you got Herbert. If you want more resourcefulness and adaptability of virtually every hi-gain hi-end amp on the market, then you got Herbert. Otherwise, ...you may be a redneck…

You will get some n00bs claiming that Herbert doesn’t cut through the mix in a band or live condition. I say put the pipe down and see if you can find some solid ground to rest your fatigued feet on. I play 95% of the time in a live situation, whether it is a long gig, rehearsal, jamming with several other musicians (guitarists…etc) or just sitting in on a session in a unknown environment; Herbert will come through with flying colors, each and every time.

Again, it takes time to fully appreciate the overall tone complexities, to completely understand the endless tone stacks and sonic inventory, the versatility and "massive plethora" of sonic drive ability and possibilities that all of the Diezel guitar amps have to dish out – in any scenario. It takes a firm grasp with a Diezel to realize this.

I’ve had two Herbert’s over the past 6+ years and of all the master/non-master volume (switched and non-switched) all-tube amps that I’ve managed to own and pin down (and there are many), a Diezel will school them all in the right hands!

Once you go Diezel, and you understand and appreciate what you really have at your finger tips, you will never go back to the garden variety head shells.

Ultrasound in NYC has lots of Herberts, VH4's and Einsteins in stock. Don't know if that's too far for you. I picked up a brand spankin' new Herbert yesterday from a local store! Super fun amp. This is about my 6th or 7th herbie over the years.

+1 for Ultrasound - Gene is a great guy!

Go VH4!

Hey guys, thought I would just let you know that I did get a phone call from Terry the other day and had a pretty extensive phone conversation. Thanks again for your time and effort Terry! It looks like I just have to make a decision on a direction. And truthfully it is just flat out difficult to decide between amps when you can't plug into them yourself. It looks like this is gonna come down to a VH4, Einstein, or still possibly a Suhr OD-100 in some variation. John Suhr and the boys have built me an unbelievable guitar lately and they make great products as well! So, hopefully I will get this figured out soon!

Just as a recap, I am looking for an amp to use for more straight ahead rock....not the heavy evil stuff. Think more SRV, Hendrix, Journey, Ozzy (Randy/Jake E Lee era). That sorta thing. Some sounds I though were also great...Def Leppard's Pyromania had some great sounds as did George Lynch on the first Lynch Mob recording. I want to ear a depth to the note with gain, but not too grainy or "distorted". Sorta like listening to a huge bell or a giant pipe organ....there is a depth to it but not fuzz or distortion.

Tone is so subjective and everybody hears it differently! I'm sure my feable attempts to describe a tone sounds crazy and somewhat contradictory. Maybe asking the impossible in the flexibility department as I also want to be able to have the ability to play blues or classic rock....say Bad Company, Skynard, or Aerosmith type stuff. It needs to sound authentic if that makes sense...you need to hear the wood, not the preamp circuit. Oh that is a better way to describe it! Gotta hear to wood..hmmm..got wood? Lol! Who needs Brown Sound wen ya got wood! Lol! Ok...I must be really tired!

Terry, thanks again I'll be in touch!

Take a look at some Peavy stuff and save yourself the agony.

If I wanted a Peavey (5150 ect) I would have bought one a long time ago. I personally do not like the 5150 in any variation...they have what I feel is a very harsh fizzy preamp driven sound, almost fake sounding to my ears. I really tried to like them and jump on the bandwagon years ago when they first came out but just couldn't like them no matter how much I tried. I do really like old Marshall's but want to get away from 40 year old amps for every day playing. I mentioned "some" of the tones I prefer. In general I am very interested in the Diezel but am a bit hesitant because there are so few examples of "rock" that it makes me pause. Most of what I have heard is Metal and while I do drift into that realm from time to time I tend to crave a bit of a different tone. I am concerned that the Diezel doesn't have the "soul" of a vintage type amp. As I stated previously..it is very frustrating because I do not have a way locally to play the damn thing! That would pretty much settle it once and for all. I would very much like to hear a VH4 doing Zepplin, Skynard, Hendrix, SRV..you get the idea. Many of the high gain amps out there (ala 5150) do not respond very well to lower gain (vintage type) settings..possibly because much of the gain generated in from the preamp section and not the Poweramps...they sound fuzzy and fizzy not tubey. Plus they lack warmth. I don't think the Diezel will sound Fizzy but it may be a bit sterile and have it's "own" sound to a point that the classic stiff may not sound "authentic" which is important to me.

So maybe there is a VH4 owner out there that would like to post a few Zepplin/Hendrix/Bad Company/Gary Moore....whatever clips. Just show that the amp can do the vintage thing with being sterile. That is what I am looking for. As I said I am playing Vintage marshall stuff and it is good but I would like to find a "modern" amp that can cover this stuff convincingly. I want to from Vai to Eric Johnson to Page to Eddy and whatever...yea a tall order and maybe not possible. Perhaps we will see.

I assure you that the tones you desire are in the Diezel amps...all of them. I still think the Einstein or VH4 would be a great option for you. I also think the Schmidt will work for you as well. I say this without hesitation as you know. My offer still stands.

Thanks Terry..I am still very much considering a Diezel. So...what is a schmidt?
