Are both master volumes supposed to sound exactly alike in tone and volume on the Einstein, when set to the same level?

The pots can have tolerance. If necessary adjust the knobs.

Best,
Peter

Master 1 seems to get louder at lower settings than master 2 and master 2 sems to sound tighter. Perhaps I'm imagining things.

Not sure about Einstein, but on my Herbert MKI both MV knobs are precisely positioned the same and the second master is ~10-15% louder.

Actually I meant to say that Master 1 seems to sound tighter.

Do both master volumes run off the same preamp tube?

Might be talking out of my ass here, but I don't believe masters run out of the preamp section - they're powertube territory and OT territory.

I think you're right, but I wasn't sure. Where in the PNW do you live? I'm trying to find someone in my area who has a VH4 I could try.

Nice to know I'm not alone on this and that my ears still work.

Ventura which Diezel amp do you have?
Hagen and a VH4S which is actually sold but still in my possession till my guy gets back into the country. I'm also looking at the D-Moll and a VH4 (mono). I like Diezels. They sound like what I think an amp should sound like.

Hagen is by far my fave thus far. It's got some greasiness to it that's just extra special

I'm dying to try a VH4 and I think that there ar a couple of guys on the forum that live in my area. Unfortunately I'm too new to the forum to pm them to see if they are willing to let me try one out.

With a handle like "dark helmet", I think I'd be leery about havin' ya in my hood too

I guess there's really one thing I can say about Diezel amps - specifically the VH4 and VH4S. There's nothing that sounds like they do. Whether or not it's gonna be your cup of tea, can't tell you. But I will say, I've got a lot of amps in da hizzy, and have had a lot of amps through my space...I've done the honeymoon thing with many of them. Every time I plug BACK into the V, the room fills with these brilliant bouncing 3D sounds - even at low volumes, which is a sin to play the amp at as it really comes to life at louder volumes, the amp just sounds soooooooooo thick and harmonically rich. It is tight. Tight as a hens ass. It doesn't suffer slop well. But once you find your groove? It cuts through any mix, takes stomps incredibly well, has the best loop in the industry (stated for the record!), and has balls out aggression yet refinement.

I dig my Hagen the most - which may sound like a juxtaposition - but it's because I love the greasiness it offers. It suits my style of playing a bit better. But I am eyeballing a VH4 mono to have as I like the sound of the mono head's potency and breakup better than the 2x50W sides of the VH4S. BUT!!!! True stereo amp??? Tssssssssssss.... man, it's tits.

There ya have it.

Thanks Ventura for the input. I have the Einstein with a 30 day return warranty with GC. Two weeks left to Decide if I'm going to keep it. Can't afford to have both, and I buy from GC cause I can finance 1 year same as cash. Just got to hope one turns up on their used site

Einstein's an incredible amp. What's it not giving you? Superhero powers? The gift of being an instant amazing player that drops jaws? Amazing bank of creativity and immediate fame?

Just asking. Make sure you know why you're buying the amp. Amps don't increase talent - they' just make louder mistakes   Einstein's a great great amp - another beautifully voiced amp from Diezel. Sure, if you're into the heavier sounds - maybe not the best, but it can get there if needed.

Cheers - good luck - hang in there...

No I really dig it just wanted to try the VH4 since I have the money to buy one or the other. If I thought the VH4 increased talent this wouldn't be a thread and I'd own it. :D

I just don't know if it's as tight as I want it. Still kinda tweaking it.

VH4 can be as tight as a hens ass in capable hands. It's surgical man, but offers a lot more harmonic content and this "bouncy rubbery metallic" tone (something I've referred to the V's tone as before) that's simply not found in any other amp. I know the Fryette line up make great amps - I like them too (not love, but like) - and they're surgical as hell too. But there's some 'life' that the VH4(S) has that these don't. They're beautiful.

Keep at 'er.

I'm probably going to return the Einstein. Bought it used from GC and when looking in the chassis I noticed some rust in the corners and seams in the inside. I'm sure it wont rot but for $2250 out the door it doesn't seem worth it. Plus the face plate seems to be taller on one side than the other and it makes the front grill look crooked (not huge deal but it bugs me). A bit bummed at the moment. :(
