Diezel Einstein vs Engl Powerball ii

Need some help with this....I'm fighting the urge to get rid of my Diezel Einstein and get an Engl Powerball ii.
I currently have the Einstein and have loved it but I can't resist the urge to get a Powerball ii. I've only played a powerball in a store for a short time, so not enough to make a fully informed decision.

Does anyone have both and could recommend? Or even suggest something else? I'm after a tight low end amp with more gain than I know what to do with haha
 
I had an Einstein for a couple of years and I really liked the amp. It sounded great but yes....I can see where you are going. I ended up selling mine for a Herbert but didn't like the Herbert as much as I'd thought. Truth be told, I should have just spent the extra years ago and got the VH-4. I probably still would have had it. Now, though....I've found exactly what I like in an amp.

Have you considered the D-Mol? Lots of gain, nice mid-cut feature, etc.
 
I have thought about a VH-4...money is a little bit of an object there right now (new baby just arrived lol) might be worth hanging out for?

My buddy just got a D-Moll and we A/B'd it and the Einstein. Honestly it was a tough choice between them, I loved the mid-cut feature for sure but I'm not sure there was just enough of a difference to make it worth getting if you follow?
 
Going from Diezel to Engl is like going from Mesa to Peavey.
All four brands are great, but the Diezel and Mesa have an edge in the tone dept.
 
What is it that you are "missing" with the Einstein? .

That's an interesting way to look at it man, I do like the mesa recto and the 6505 tone, but would take the mesa every day over it

Honestly I'm not too sure, I'd like some more gain on tap, but I love the low end from the Einstein, one of the few amps you can feel when you play
 
I'm sure have already considered it...But Diezel D-Moll? I am not a fan of the Powerball (having owned one).
 
The PB is a fun amp but for the majority of applications I can't see it being better than any Diezel.

Also, if you are considering Engl look at the SE or Savage over the PB II, especially coming from a Diezel.
 
I hated the old powerball (muddy mess), but the II does sound good
but the Einstein sounds much superior, in my opinion
less fizz and much more depth and detail
tonewise, I'd take my chinese randall rd50h fortin over the powerball II any day (it doesn't have the 100w thump, though)
build quality is quite impressive as well

I'd also include the Retro 100.
 
change tubes and use some kind of boost ? :-)

i'd agree overall the diezel is better imo, awesome loop, and imo a better tone if it's just more gain maybe juicing the front end a bit more might help
i had the Einstein 100 for a while, super clear even at higher gain settings
might be that which is bothering you? ie this causes perception of not enough gain on tap

the peavey vs mesa analogy is a good one
 
Having owned both, there's no way in hell I'd pick any Engl over the Einstein
 
Einstein is an amazing amp, I wouldnt swap it for the PB. If I had to go Engl again, it would be either the Savage 120 or Blackmore. But the Einstein is still a great amp.

Have you considered maybe adding a preamp or a pedal?
 
Thanks guys, yeah maybe a pedal would be the answer for it to add a little juice. Seems the general consensus is the Diezel tone is superior to the Engl.... Wish I could A/B them just for piece of mind haha. I'm sure I'd regret getting rid the Einstein

Alternatively, if you want something with a bit more juice/grind, save up for a Herbert or a D-Moll. You won't regret it and either will give you what you're after better than any ENGL.

Not at all. You have to remember this board is filled with Diezel fanbois. Nothing wrong with that, but it means you have to take a lot of the comments with a grain of salt.

I've owned several Diezels and several Engls. They are all great amps, but I prefer the Engl. for my purposes, it cuts better, sounds more brutal, and is more flexible.

Everyone hears amps differently, and everyone is looking for different tones from their amp. I've sold each Diezel I've owned soon after I bought it. The tones just weren't for me. I really like the PBII. I think it's the best bang for the buck modern high gain amp available.
 
For metal, lots of gain and tight bass... I'd pick the PBII. Ive owned both lots of Engls and Diezels... The Einstein is my least favorite Diezel... While the PBII is in the middle of the Engl pack. A better comparison would be the Herbert vs. the SE.
 
IDK about Engl products. Every tone I hear from them leaves me :confused: and then their build quality for cost leaves me :thumbsdown:

I'd keep what you have, better build quality & tone (to my ears).
