I am starting to actively play music again so I have decided to put together an official rig of some kind.

I am going to use ..
Diezel Hagen (already have this)
Rocktron Midi Raider
TC G-Major 2

Pretty basic setup but believe it or not in my 20+ years of playing I have never owned pedal or anything fancy. Just a guitar, amp, cab. So you might say I am a newbie when I comes to effects processors.

The reason for the G-Major 2 and not pedals is my effects are going to play a minor role in my sound plus I want the ease of transportation and maintenance.

Here is my signal chain. Not sure what is the best way.
Midi Raider -> Diezel -> G-Major 2
OR
Midi Raider -> G-Major 2 -> Diezel

So here are my questions. Granted some of these I could ask support but I wanted to ask the people who use this stuff in the real world plus .. If anyone else has similar questions, viola.

I want t use a switchable parallel loop. I am not crazy about fully ADA'ing my signal. I know they say that the G-Major 2 causes little to no tone loss but I am a guitarist. :)

1. The Hagen says I can switch the parallel loop on and off via my controller. To do this the manual says all I have to do is go out of the switched loop send -> into g-major -> out of g-major -> into the parallel return. This seems too simple but is it that easy?

2. The Hagen manual says in order to use an effects processor I need to set the g-major to 100% wet so I don’t get phasing issues when used with the parallel loop. Can I set the g-major 2 to 100% wet? And if so what are the opinions on doing so.

3. From what I have read when using parallel loop I can’t use a noise gate. Which makes sense. I read the ISP Decimator II is the way to go. I assume this would go between my amp and my guitar? This makes sense to me.

4. This question is a big one. I want to be able to perform multiple changes at once. So .. let’s say I want to, with the 1 button click, turn on delay and chorus and change to channel 1. Now this may be the tricky part. Let’s say with the 2 button I want to turn on the reverb and channel 1. The concept is being able combine any number of effects and channel changes with a single button click. From what I have read the g-major will switch amp channels but I am not sure if I can assign different groupings plus the channel change. Obviously if I have to use a 2 button effects/channel change then it is not a deal breaker on this set up.

This may help illustrate it.
Button 1 (Chorus, Delay, Channel 1)
Button 2 (Reverb, Channel 1)
Button 3 (Channel 2)
Button 4 (Phaser, Reverb, Channel 2)

These are just examples of course. I am not necessarily going to use these effects.

Thanks in advance,
Donnie

1. yes that easy.

2. Yes, gmajor2 has kill dry. must be done for parallel use. this means basically you can use chorus, delay and reverb. maybe some light pitch. HUGE limitations with gmajor 2, sold mine right away.

3. yes. there are different decimator models, some track up front but suppress in loop, g string models. you have to try gates in your rig and decide where.

4. confusing. youll need a midi controller for switching both units as far as i know.

I just got one, too. I love it. It's actually simplifying my stage set up - Less cabling, less jacks to get unplugged while I am playing, etc. I think the digital conversion is great. There is only the tiniest bit of difference when playing as far as feel goes with having it in the loop (Metro). I'm also using it serial w/Killdry off. Saving to user patches is easy and working around/adding fx to a patch is no prob... I even figured how to get a solo boost for leads. :rock: I'm happy with it! Even though I've added another 'thing' to bring to gigs, I've been able to use a smaller footprint for a pedalboard, and I use the rack for storage, including a delay pedal, a boost bedal and extra cables from my old board in case something happens and the TC goes down. The only way this setup would be better for me is if the head & rack were in an all-in-one case.

1 -3 as per above.

4) yes, you can do that. copy your programs on the GMII to several program numbers then decide which FX you want in that program. select those programs and set the amp up on whichever channel you want and program the amp to that MIDI program on the GMII. it may get cumbersome and messy.

spend a few more bucks, ditch the raider, get you a voodoo labs GCX and controller. run the GMII through the GCX looper and use the GCX to control program changes to the amp. much easier and cleaner.

Awesome feedback guys. I appreciate it. I am going to put it all together and see what happens.

Thanks,
Donnie

I found a Fractal MFC 101 on Ebay that looks like something that will work for me. Can this be used with a G-Major 2? From what I have read the answer is yes. Not sure if there were any "except this feature" issues.

I use a g major 2. Control it with an Engl Z-15 and that changes patches on the g major and switches channels on the amp at the same time. All one button changes like you describe.
